Mike Mann on the Water Cycle, and Mud Wrestling

Why will there paradoxically be both heavier rainfall and increased droughts under climate change? Prof. Michael Mann of Penn State explains. Useful to understand, once again, how increasing incidents of severe downpours can actually result in dryer soil conditions over time.

In addition, below, Dr. Mann explains why debating climate deniers is like mud wrestling pigs.

  1. Great job by Mann in the “mud wrestling” clip. Smooth and very well put, and it sounds as if he himself has gone to the “special school” to learn how to better communicate the truth about denialism (and paraphrase George Bernard Shaw)—-if so, he got an “A” and more scientists need to attend.

Although pigs are smarter and “nicer” animals than folks give them credit for, there are many “pigisms” that are also appropriate for the deniers:

Don’t try to teach a denier pig to speak truth—you will only waste your time and make them spout their lies more strongly.

Deniers are happier in their ignorance and lies than a pig in s**t.

Deniers will accept truth and behave honestly when pigs can fly.

If you put lipstick on a lying denier pig, it’s still a pig.

And since we’re abusing pigs, something quite relevant (and true, if anyone who has ever been within a mile of a pig farm can attest to:

“I’d make a great politician. I’d make it out of pig shit, so it wouldn’t be as foul as it is now.” ― Jarod Kintz

  2. Since we’re talking about wrestling with denialist pigs, what ever happened to Russell Cook, that baseball-cap-wearing denier pig who roots in the mud for Heartland?

To remind everyone, Peter asked Russell to “clarify” why he was appending the statement “Two Thumbs Up for this comment!—Sinclair & Cook” to many of his comments.

“Sinclair & Cook” – not sure what this is about. I never thumbs anything on this blog. I either leave it alone or I (rarely) trash it.
    Please clarify.

Peter’s message was really saying to Russell “Go Directly To Jail—DO NOT pass GO—DO NOT collect $200” , and implying that the ONLY way Russell will get out of jail is to provide Peter and the rest of us with an adequate “clarification”. We are still waiting to hear from Russell. Will he confess his sins and ask forgiveness? If so, that will be a first (and perhaps proof that pigs CAN fly).
