Sheldon Whitehouse: Time to Wake up From Magical Thinking

So many folks have written to me and urged me to listen to this, that I finally did.

They’re right, it’s worth hearing. In an era when the ideals of enlightenment seem to have fallen out of favor, Senator Whitehouse makes a case that Jefferson or Franklin would instantly recognize.

  1. Looked on youtube: From May 8, 2013

In the mid 90s, el Rushbo pushed this line of thinking as his answer to all environmental concerns.

Said: It’s impossible for puny Man to affect the planet on anything but a tiny scale. We never have and never will. Our forests are limitless.

    How humble.

I was SCREAMING at my radio: “Do you not know one of the main reasons the English came to America was that they cut down most of THEIR forests and needed oak timbers for masts and pine pitch to seal the bottoms of their ships?”

Somehow, I don’t think he heard me.

    1. Both Limbaugh and Watts are hearing-impaired; unfortunately it’s not solely a physical deficiency.

  2. America: imagine the Trillion + spent on war since 2001, spent rather on proper land husbandry, proprer renewable agriculture, proper anaerobic digestion of humanure, manure and other waste products for methane and top soil building fertilizers, Thorium LFTR reactors, Solar Wind Wave hydro, Tidal, geothermal, Biologocal domenstic renewable energy.
America has wasted away the last bread basket for humanity on earth, and we are a diminishing nation now.

  3. Magical thinking is at the heart of the belief system of the Bible-thumpers.
Unless you can inject some reason into the bubble they live in, I don’t see how this will change. The changing demographics will do this but too slowly and too late.
