In a meeting sponsored by the American Institute of Architects featuring many experts including James Hansen, a senior official specializing in this kind of work (I will not identify him) was asked, which one of the proposals to address future storms and sea level rise would be most effective?…….He took a very long pause staring down at the podium, took a deep breath and said….there is only one approach that stands as the most effective action…..a managed retreat from the shore. It a solution, I believe, that we are not ready to have as a society to address.
