Are all people—male, female, homosexual, heterosexual—supposed to prefer a masculine car?

Long time ago I heard a similar complaint on Rush Limbaugh’s show.

He riffed for some time on the idea Americans had to drive wimpy pollution-controlled cars while Chinese people could drive muscular polluting cars.

At first I thought he was going somewhere with it, it was a joke. But he was serious, just kept elaborating on the idea.
