That CO2 “trace gas” he refers to determines whether the entire agricultural and economic system we depend on for food and everything else we manufacture continues in its current state or switches to an entirely new equilibrium scenario. It’s not easy to relocate entire production areas like Iowa, Alberta, Brazil, southeastern China, Mekong delta etc.
No doubt he is a smart guy when it comes to tracking stock prices, but we have too many smart people who just don’t ‘get it’ that climate change changes the very foundation of human civilization. It’s not about your day at the beach getting a bit warmer. It’s about food supply for entire nations. The climate is the planetary life support system and we are scrambling the wires. Only an insane person would do that on the Intnl Space Station. That is what we are doing to the one place in the entire observable universe known to support biological beings such as ourselves. This insanity has to stop.

What part of increasingly frequent record-smashing heat waves and rain events doesn’t Joe Kernen understand? Does he still think, like a child, that food comes “from a grocery store”?

Of all the implications of this story, Sorkin seemed aghast that Chouinard’s kids didn’t want the money.
I hear disgusting stories about family members bickering over their “inheritance” and it makes me glad that my siblings and I weren’t raised to expect a monetary inheritance. Our education and awareness of the wider world was wealth in itself.
Fun fact: Chouinard is French for “How do you pronounce that?”
