Yeah – seems a spot on warning report (all for thruppence or 10 shillings a year), though not a big audience in those rural parts of N.Z , so one hundred and ten years later on we are beginning to realize that those early warning were close to the mark and not early alarmists. Not sure how much of today’s nations are in any kind of shape to seriously tackle the legacy problems right now.

And just for interest this article originated from science writer Alex Kasprak in the Popular Mechanics magazine, then published out of Chicago, and its March 1912 edition.

  4. The science to make this prediction possible is even older. Way older. It was Eunice Newton Foote who in 1859 did the experiment that showed that CO2 had total different properties compared with O2 en N2 the main components of the atmosphere. See the wikipedia page about this and the prediction she made that the ever increasing use of coal and thus CO2 emissions could and would make Earth warmer. She even gave the full mechanism how it does work. By the way; She did not use the term greenhouse.
