Greta Thunberg Breathing Fire at Summit Meeting

July 2, 2021

Greta Thunberg proves a prickly dinner guest.

Austrian World Summit:

HEALTHY PLANET – HEALTHY PEOPLE is the motto of the fifth AUSTRIAN WORLD SUMMIT, which will take place on July 1st at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. Guests from all over the world will discuss current climate issues with host Arnold Schwarzenegger: ” I am excited to team up with President Van der Bellen and Chancellor Kurz once again for the Austrian World Summit. Join us, and countless other climate action heroes from around the world, in Vienna on July 1st for our 5th annual event where we will celebrate America’s re-entry into the Paris Agreement and continue the crusade for a healthy planet and healthy people. Together we can terminate pollution and create some real climate action.”

For all of you who can´t join us in person, but still want to be part of the action and the intensive networking going on all around the conference, we have added a new feature this year: A special online tool in which you can not only watch the Livestream of the AUSTRIAN WORLD SUMMIT, but also connect with up to 1200 other participants from around the globe virtually.

You can chat with the other participants in an open chat forum about what is happening on stage or hold bilateral online meetings as well as group meetings. In the afternoon, there will also be a moderated discussion round via the chat.

The analogy about addressing the pandemic in terms of giving jobs to mask-makers is apt. From the outside, the spin that Biden has to put on addressing the climate crisis does look like theater.

Those of us looking at US politics from the inside know that appealing to other motivations is important to get people to support the spending of trillions of dollars by the entity that controls the purse-strings, and that means fighting all of the corrupt disinformation that the GOP and right-wing media have been spreading for decades.

She’s got more moxy, more courage than the entire world’s Scumbag ‘o Politicians put together.

The thing I take away from the Greta phenomenon, is that she has gotten through where more learned, scholarly, well-connected people have failed. Republican types who have built their psychological defenses against acknowledging and understanding climate change reality, have their fortified walls of psychological repression all built where they have been trained to expect the confrontation with dreaded REALITY will happen. They’ve prepped their ad-men, their “Doubt is Our Product” producers – meanwhile, this innocent Swedish school girl with Asperger’s Syndrome Ninja’d through those defenses almost like they weren’t even there. They weren’t. Who’s spent time building defenses against such an adversary? We’re conditioned to feel affection and be helpful and open to people of her pedigree – and then out comes the intellectual Samurai sword and flying buzzsaw wheels and before the Climate Denialists know it – they’re shredded.

    I love it!

Of course a movie needs to be written and done on this. A documentary of course, but also I’d love to see a “Wonder Woman” dramatic treatment which demonstrates what I’m saying.

Thunberg is a self-righteous hectoring twerp who has found out how to get attention.
I have trouble believing she is net positive for the movement to address climate change.

Name one thing in her comments in this recent video that is factually or substantively wrong. She has support because she is practically the only person brave enough to say out loud the things others only think.

Is it wrong to tell those in power they are doing a crap job at limiting climate change? Do you disagree that they are doing a bad job? Or are your objections less about what she says and more about her personally? Why do you assume this is all about her and that she has a selfish desire for attention?

And if she tells those in power they are doing a bad job, will their reaction be to do an even worse job, or will they make an extra effort to do just a little better? How is it that she is making climate change worse, when it is those that think they are covered in shadow doing everything they can to just keep the status quo?

    Beautiful Greta

    GO GO GRETA.

  5. Paul Rattenbury Says:

The single, the most basic item, the simplest thing that can be done immediately to indicate sincerity on Climate Change is: Free Public Transit -Frequent and 24/7 …and Funding be damned. However; we have shown no interest in this and think that electric vehicles will save our asses; while ignoring the fact that cars are only 10% of ‘the problem’.
The next most immediate on the List is the decision to not have children. The age of Normal Families has passed due to the threat that is so clearly demonstrated by our degraded environment and the inertia already loaded Our Climate System. Even if we Stopped Everything Now… we are probably goin’ down the road… as in the movie: THE ROAD.
If you can’t imagine stopping Capitalism; you cannot imagine avoiding the climate disaster.

Who is going to design and build the streetcars and buses that the municipalities need, the People’s Factory #5?

Unfettered capitalism, which allows externalizing costs while enjoying profits, it absolutely a problem. Channeling the great power of capitalism within protective legislation, however, can help us achieve a lot.

    • Brent Jensen-Schmidt Says:

Free public transport does not APPEAR to significantly increase users. Is it beneath the first world persons? The cure for the population is ( sorta ) worse than the disease, even if Corona does it for us.
