   Oh for ****’s sake. It’s just a dog. All that CO2 released to ‘rescue’ a useless animal that contributes more to global heating than the family car due to it’s meat diet.
   Just shoot the ****ing thing.

     We’re not in trouble because humans have compassion for our fellow beings.

       The 470 MILLION pet dogs on the planet are a major contributor to climate change. Their meat requirements mean they contribute to global heating more than a small car.
       If you don’t care about climate change then fair enough but don’t try to pretend the epidemic of the totally unnecessary hundreds of millions of dogs has anything to do with ‘compassion’. It’s selfishness pure and simple.
       I can understand -say- an elderly widow keeping a small dog as a companion but there are plenty of people who live in high rise flats who keep TWO Rottweillers in the flat. That is not compassion that is animal abuse.
       They need to be phased out. We have advanced a little as a society since we sat round open fires in the savanah and the dogs barked at any predator they heard approaching and next day helped us run our prey to a standstill.
       It’s a sickness that we still keep them.

         Hmmm—–470 MILLION dogs on the planet? With an average weight of perhaps 45 pounds? That makes each of them the equivalent of maybe 1/4 of a human being. So, we have just over 100 million “human equivalents” represented by dogs (and don’t forget that dog food is not all “meat”, but contains fruit, vegetables, fish, and grains).

         A rather small windmill leslie is tilting at here. Why does he dislike dogs so much?

     This comment helps reaffirm my belief that I have enjoyed meeting just about every last dog I’ve ever encountered but can’t say the same for the human beings.

   Well aren’t you the lucky one.

   There are about 4.7 million dog bites every year in the U.S.
   So I’m guesshing that over the last coupld of decades there must be at least 100 million Americans who don’t share your view.
   They are a polluting dangerous menace and need to be phased out except for special circumstances.

     convincing them that evil enviros want to kill the family pooch.

     Ah, it appears that leslie may have some antipathy towards dogs because he has been bitten? (Why do dogs bite you, leslie? Do they sense that you deserve it?)

     I myself have been bitten just twice in my 80+ years, both times as a teenager by dogs on my newspaper route when I was collecting payment—-drew blood both times. Also had an ancient cocker spaniel that used to crawl over and murder my shoelaces while I got paid. and a rather large German shepherd (named Panzer) who used to hide in the bushes and chase me when I rode by on my bike—he would nip at my feet and I would whack him on the head with a rolled up newspaper—-great fun for him One time he managed to grab my leg and knock me off my bike—-he stood there with a look of embarrassment on his face, like he didn’t really mean to do it. There were many dozens of dogs along my paper route, and the vast majority were quite friendly.

     Yes, dogs will occasionally bite a human, and that’s what dogs do—-why else do they have those formidable teeth. Anyone with a brain and an ounce of compassion knows this and behaves accordingly around them. Peter posts these animal vids as a “feel good” message during times when there isn’t much to feel good about—-I for one appreciate seeing them

     I too have been bitten once when I was a 13 year old paper-boy by a little sharp toothed corgi, drew blood and was told by the owner “it was only playing”. I also have a small gentle dog that was bitten by a large Staffordshire terrier and needed vet attention. I requested the owners were fined (rather than the animal destroyed), for letting the aggressive animal run free. The point is the modern dog has been bred for human’s specifications/pleasure, either as security, guard, sports, hunting, show animals or to just to provide love and companionship. Certainly I would desire to show compassion when a dog (or any other animal) is in trouble. There are many stories of dogs rescuing people, (earthquakes, fires etc), it is a two way affair.
