   I’ve developed an active distaste for automatically celebrating the whole “We will rebuild!” mindset. A lot of places may be able to rebuild a viable community, but any practical assessment is often swamped by the emotional narrative highlighted by the news media.

     A lot of places do rebuild only to be flooded or burned out again. it is misleading and unfair to the public at large to plant the seed that rebuilding is all we need to do after a catastrophe. Some places simply need to be abandoned, no matter how emotionally attached the residents may be to them.
