Back in the day, Nixon tried to win the election via Watergate but at least tried to keep his activities hidden. Then I read that Donald Trump openly placed one of his million dollar donators (Louis DeJoy) as head of the post office in order to make it run like a third-rate county. Over the next few months DeJoy reshuffled 23 post office managers just to make things more inefficient. So here’s what I don’t understand, back in the Nixon days politicians and voters of all stripes were outraged (which led to the beginning of an impeachment inquiry which Nixon shut down by resigning). Something has changed since then because no one now is shocked -AND- many Republican politicians seem to be okay with this.

How Did Americans Become Such Wimps?
Silence as Trump kills tens of thousands, destroys Social Security and post office, and plots election fraud.

There are lots of reasons, but the main one is that the corporate duopoly has been so effective in shutting down opposition. People in an unhealthy state tend very strongly toward splitting into 2 groups. Rather than divide along any sensible lines—99 vs. 1, corporate lackeys vs. everybody else, long-ears vs. short ears… as long as there’s a fake division it can stop the real one from developing.

The Republicans are insane and are doing what they’re compelled to do by their mental illness, so Pelosi, Schumer, Biden et al are as responsible for the stuckness and for allowing the continued drive to the right (in the face of opposition by 80-90% of the public) as the Republicans are. The Democrats further split the left into progressives trying hopelessly to reform the party and the system, vs. people who have given up, knowing they’ll never get anything they want.

To get anywhere on climate, we have to break the hold the Democrats have on that second split. Maybe it’s time for the Squad to start to break free from the other right wing of the duopoly and pull the very progressive half of the party together with the non-voters to create a party that willl represent people rather than money.
