There’s a major impediment to each of us being our own micro-utilities: Politicians can still get lots of
bribescampaign donations from local utilities that don’t want to support net metering.July 26, 2020 at 10:11 am
true that net metering has opposition from utilities, but the technology suggests that this will be temporary, as batteries get so cheap that more and more customers will begin to store energy during off peak times, and use that power during peak times, when utilities have customarily made most of their money.
The math will increasingly become obvious to even the most intransigent utilities in coming years.

All you have listed are advantages. Especially the economy of scale. Tens of millions of batteries in a unfied grid! You think that’s not a big deal?
The guy gets it. Anyone who has followed Mush from the start gets it.
Tesla isn’t in competition with the likes of Ford and Toyota – he is in competition with the likes of Exxon and Shell. They just don’t realise it yet.
I mean it’s not like we even have a choice is it. The carbon industries have to be replaced. End of.

You have it exactly backwards. Economy of scale means the exact opposite of millions of people paying full retail for millions of needlessly duplicated needlessly customized solar PV/battery system components.
That, plus that the privatization of a public commons resource is a bad idea. Just like it is when Republicans try to privatize Social Security, privatize the military, privatize medicine.
