“Jeezum. The number of documented US cases just doubled overnight.”

That’s what I said on Tuesday. It had jumped to 3000 cases.

Today at 1:30 PM it is 11,340. MR is 4.13 worldwide, only 1.5% in the US.

Yesterday the US jumped from number 8 to number 6 in ranking of countries with most reported cases. Closing in on Germany for number 5.

It will continue to spike for at least the next 14 days, because those are the people that were infected before the shutdowns of the last few days. Governor Cuomo doesn’t think New York will reach a peak for 45 days – which may be the case, as it seems pretty out of control there.

There are still groups meeting, though. Texas itself today declared no groups over 10 for the state, and I thought we waited a few days too long for that, even with just roughly 100 confirmed cases in the state. Trump has yet to do that for the country, leaving it to local governments and businesses to do it.

Here’s an article I read today:

His argument – do China-style lockdowns mandated on the federal level right now. It would definitely help. The author seems to think that would solve the problem in a month or so, though, and then we could get back to normal. It only would do so if there was near 100% containment not just nationally, but globally. Otherwise, it just starts to spread again when people ease up on the containment.

Mexico’s President seems to be an idiot. It could be that we’ve reached the hump just as Mexico starts to get out of control:

    5:30 PM on 3/19/2020 – up to 13,328 (!)

Daresay we will be up to number 5 tomorrow, surpassing Germany.

US pulled into # 5 position about midnight on 3/20 2020 @ 19,648, although still chasing Germany and Spain.

Ahhhh! The latest numbers from the Vermont headquarters of the CDC. (Just in case any of us have no access to TV or newspapers but DO have access to the internet and this blog—thank you, GB)

The front page of the WashPost this AM displays the numbers graphically—-they are going exponential and heading toward an early peak—-so much for “flattening the curve”.

  3. Gingerbaker Says:

US now at number 3 with 36,756 cases, almost 400 deaths as of 3/22/2020 1:30 PM.

    graph at

shows beginnings of an slowdown in rate of rise of infections. Let’s hope that holds.

    • dumboldguy Says:

Beginnings of a slowdown? We can hope, but a one day “blip” is not likely to hold. The spring breakers are back home and all those who gathered in churches and prayed so that the holy ghost would protect them have gone home—-it will take a few days for them to show symptoms

  4. Gingerbaker Says:

Strange – they just revised the numbers down substantially.

    Now 32,356 as of 4:18 PM 3/22/2020.

    • dumboldguy Says:

See!—-It’s a hoax! George Soros and the Democrats and Fake News were blowing it all out of proportion! Soon they will revise it down to the REAL truth—-the 15 cases that the very stable genius said “will soon go away”.
