If in the end Tesla is a real buy, I expect it will be from their mega batteries.
There is far too much competition in EVs from companies that on the share price are worth less, that sell more vehicles and make greater profits. Just as Microsoft now makes more money from cloud services, Tesla profits from cars are not great.
“There is far too much competition in EVs from companies that on the share price are worth less, that sell more vehicles “
Tesla now sells more BEV’s than any other car company. Yeah – they just surpassed the big Chinese company .
“Tesla profits from cars are not great.”
LOL. Tesla has extremely healthy profit margins on their vehicles, likely the highest in the industry. They make huge profit dollars on their sales. They simply do not often report overall profits, because they reinvest those moneys in infrastructure and R & D.
More fake news from the chairman of the Crock chapter of the Musk Lovers Cult. “….sells more BEV’s than ANY other car company”—-too bad their competition is ALL other car companies that sell EV’s, and once their sales take off, Tesla will have a problem. “….extremely healthy profit margins on their vehicles, likely the highest in the industry, they make HUGE profit dollars on their sales…”—-REALLY? That assertion is PFTA—Plucked From Thin Air. A little web searching would get you some FACT:
“Tesla, Inc. (TSLA) had Profit Margin of -4.55% for the most recently reported fiscal year, ending 2018-12-31”
PS Let’s now hear from the Cult about how Musk is going to put humans on Mars by 2040.
We KNOW Amazon was profitable, GB—just because they are unpatriotic scumbags and were able to hide it and not pay taxes on it does NOT compare to Tesla, which has not been making money and has burned through many billions since its inception. Apples and oranges, GB, in spite of what you cultists think you see in the Book Of Musk..
Thanks for the laugh you give us when you speak of “logic” and spout illogic about how lots of revenue means anything when there is a negative profit margin—LOL. Next you’ll be saying that the U.S. government is “profitable” because it takes in so much “revenue” even though it runs a budget deficit and therefore has a negative profit margin,
I admit that I may be Chief Bottle Washer of the Cranky Crocky Mars Man Musk Hater’s Club—-he needs to focus on EV’s (and ones that will sell, unlike the Giant Hot Wheels pickup) so that Tesla will make a profit and survive—-right now the market is valuing Musk’s showmanship over the company’s real prospects. I will hold on to my Solar Roadway stock until we see how Tesla does in the coming recession.
I will acknowledge my sin and grovel for mercy only after you do so for yours. And when are you going to read the book that may help you?—-BRIGHTSIDED: HOW POSITIVE THINKING IS UNDERMINING AMERICA

Solar has many participants too.
No one else is making mega batteries.

Everything you say there is completely irrelevant to :
1) Who sells the most BEV’s
2) Tesla’s profit margin per car.
Both of which were in reply to rabiddoomsayer incorrect statements.

By your logic Amazon, which paid no taxes in 2018, doesn’t make a profit on their sales either. Tesla revenue in 2018 – $21.4 billion. Ahem.
Admit it – you are President, Secretary, and Chief Bottle Washer of the Cranky Crocky Tesla Hater’s Club.
Acknowledge your sin. Grovel for mercy.
