Fox & Friends: Climate Change is Nonsense. In other News, Record Flooding in Texas.

September 20, 2019

Neckbrace recommended to avoid whiplash when watching the clip above.

40 plus inches of rain in parts of Texas. This is not a hurricane, but rather just a stalled tropical depression.

Working on a piece that will delve into this with experts – but, in a nutshell, we’re getting major hurricane impacts without the major hurricane.

  1. Engineer Ron Says:

Texas has a very long history of flash flooding, many of which were far worse than current.

Probably it would be best to consider the current situation in TX to be variable whether.

    • J4Zonian Says:

      Or variable wethers, maybe–castrated scapegoats.

Why would it be best to consider the current situation in TX to be variable weather? Does that help us prepare for situations like this in the future? Did you know that it was 108° in Paris and 95° in Anchorage Alaska earlier this year, both all time records in the history of record keeping?

And 46.6 C in Adelaide, highest temp ever recorded in any capital city in Oz. Self delusion is not a survival characteristic,

“Self delusion is not a survival characteristic”

Ah, but it is! And that’s a sad thing:

People lie to themselves all the time. They don’t even realize they are doing it. It’s like breathing. And some people are just ‘better’ (or more practiced) at self-deception – like that guy in the White House. He outright lies, too, but he probably actually believes a lot of the stuff he says.

On a group level, of course an issue like climate change isn’t a survival characteristic, it’s the opposite – but we tend to evolve via individuals. It’s not surprising why denial is so prevalent.

        • doldrom Says:

Unfortunately it is. Almost all of the people I know that committed suicide were very poor at self-delusion. In contrast, insensitive, crass, ignorant, and violent types always seem to thrive like grass.

world wide there is an increase in extreme precipitation events that is unequivocal.

    • rhymeswithgoalie Says:

The issue isn’t whether an area has ever flooded before, but the catastrophic rain events that are happening more and more frequently. Warmer air holds more moisture; warmer seas create stronger storms.

Heat and precipitation records are beaten more regularly. The arctic has warmed so much that it has broken our northern jet stream and droughts, heat waves, and freezes last longer than many crops can stand.

The rainfall from tropical storm Imelda just trashed the rice crop in east Texas and much of west Louisiana. All that work and materials that the farmers put in has just been wiped out by this record rain just before harvest time for an event that would have been unheard of thirty years ago.
