July 25, 2019

Completely predictable reaction of natural system to careless human behavior. Younger generation at risk due to stupid parents.

On my first visit to Yellowstone in 1966, i witnessed the following actions of stupid parents:
    1) One woman stood next to her parked car and filmed a black bear mother and 2 cubs as they walked by on the shoulder side—-so close that they almost stepped on her feet. I told the woman she took a big chance and got a DUH
    2) A crowd of 30 or 35 formed a semicircular “photo line around a big male grazing along the Yellowstone river—-every time they got closer than 35 feet, he raised his head and shook it and stared until they backed off, which the smarter ones did when the rest of us in the back row told them to.
    3) A driver from Utah (reported to be among the dumbest drivers ever seen by the rangers back then) stopped in front of me to allow a group of 30 or 40 bison to cross the road. There were 4 or 5 that were lagging behind, so Utah decided to cut them off and drive by, at which time they charged around him to catch up to the herd bumping into his car as they did. They did damage to his fender, grille, and hood

Heard stories of morons stepping off the boardwalks in the geyser basins “to get better pictures” and breaking through the crust into boiling water or steam.

This little girls was lucky she was small and light enough, and it looked like it was a head butt more than an attempted goring. One thing is sure, no boy she ever dates is likely to be able to match that clip.

The “big male” in item 2) was a moose, and he was BIG. I have a great picture of him with the river and the trees on the far bank in the background—-no humans visible since I took the shot over the shoulders of the morons in the first row.

There was an odd incident at Steveston in Vancouver when a girl maybe 5 years was being filmed feeding the seals and a seal came up like a performing seal, caught her dress hem in its mouth and took her in when it fell back. Relative dove in and saved her from drowning.
