Once again we’re reminded how important it is to get universal health care, a universal income/living wage, and other benefits as “war” measures as we try to avoid climate catastrophe. In WWII, 10% of the US population moved for war work; it’s likely to be many more people moving over the next decade for climate work and to escape disasters. We need to be prepared in so many ways that we’re not.

Is there any henhouse in the Executive Branch which has not been assigned a fox to manage it?

    • dumboldguy Says:

No, and the foxes come and go rapidly, replaced by another toady, are usually unqualified for their jobs, and have scandal in their past.

Latest book recommendation—-“Kushner Inc.: Greed. Ambition. Corruption—The Extraordinary Story of Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump”, Vicky Ward, St. Martin’s Press, 2019. A disgusting read—-I’m halfway through and have managed not to puke.

Sadly seems very similar to Harper’s Canada, or Abbott’s Australia. Comfort in the fact eventually the regimes came to an end.

In Iceland there are plans to erect a plague – for future generations to judge the present generations’s progress on.

    May we do ourselves proud.

“Scientists Wrote a Eulogy for Iceland’s First Glacier Lost to Climate Change.

Iceland has lost its first glacier to rising temperatures. Now, scientists from Rice University and Iceland are planning to install a plaque near the sad pile of ice and snow formerly known as Ok Glacier. The researchers say it’s the first memorial to a disappearing glacier, but climate change ensures it almost certainly will not be the last.

  4. rsmurf Says:

“The data table shows that all glaciers have been reduced in area since 1966 with some glaciers having been reduced by as much as 85% by 2015. The average area reduction over the approximately 50-year period is 39%. Currently, only 26 glaciers are larger than 0.1 square kilometers (25 acres) which is used as a guideline for deciding if bodies of ice are large enough to be considered glaciers.”

“It has been estimated that there were approximately 150 glaciers present in 1850, around the end of the Little Ice Age and most glaciers were still present in 1910 when the park was established. In 2015, measurements of glacier area indicate that there were 26 remaining glaciers larger than 25 acres, the size criteria used by USGS researchers to define a glacier.”

from USGS about glacier national park!

“GOP Punishing Science and Scientists” is just the start of this new Republican fascist state and holocaust.

    Niemöller (slightly modified)

“First they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist. (and the unions are now nearly gone)

Then they came for the women, the people of color, the poor, the LGBT, and the immigrants, and I did not speak out—because I was a well-off heterosexual white male.

Then they came for the scientists because the scientists believed in observable fact rather than insane political BS, and I did not speak out—because I was not a scientist.

Last they came for the socialists and tried to send them back to the shithole countries they came from. and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me”.

    Sieg Heil, Herr Trump!
