Impeccable logic from the man behind the “Earth: The Operators’ Manual”, the forensic analogy is spot on.

He’s seen it all before in his line of work and his advise should be taken seriously.

Politicians, like most non-scientific humans, seem to be unable to comprehend geometric growth. This is made worse by the fact that people now throw around terms like million, billion, trillion with little knowledge of how many zeros come after the leading number. Even then, they count the zeros in a linear way but forget that the number represents something exponential growth. This is a long, round about way of saying that 7.7 billion humans “trying” to live like Americans “will” affect the environment. I found out about this same hearing from my Google news app. It filters ‘climate change’ to my feed. Anyway, there was an article by some obscure denier news source about how Mo Brooks had gotten the panel to agree that ‘the climate change that started 20K years ago was not man made’.

It just goes to show the rank dishonesty of these people. Brooks knows he’s warping the hearing. He doesn’t care.

Pundits like Rush Limbaugh later praised Brooks for his ‘brilliant’ tactic.

Mother Nature did the experiment for us not so long ago: kilometers-deep ice as far south as Chicago, a hundred meters of sea level change. Human greenhouse gas emissions are in danger of producing an an ice-age sized radiative imbalance. If we don’t do something we can expect that ice-age sized effects will follow.”
