Clarifying moment, if we needed another one.

These folks are not interested in rule of law.

There must be some law that Boquist violated with his threats—-arrest his ass and lock him up. As for the militias, activate the National Guard and take care of them also. CA and WA would probably be willing to send help as well. If it’s going to happen, we may as well start right now—-maybe we can get it over with by November 2020.

The thing that you have to understand about conservatives is that they think they are the heroes of this story, and all the other stories involving climate change and the endless list of left/right issues. We think we’re the heroes – they think they are the heroes.

To them, the left is trying to destroy or slowly erode American freedoms, identity, and morality – freedoms meaning mostly economic freedom, but also in some cases individual freedoms (like guns), identity in the form of race and more Anglo-specific cultural values, and with morality, the shifting landscape of sexual definitions that has them backed against a wall. The abortion debate is very clear to them – they are the moral ones, and liberals are not. On race, some (more Southern) conservatives see themselves as becoming a minority, and fear the loss of their previous status as the unquestioned power in society. They justify their racism by wrapping it in themes of Western value ‘superiority’.

They have been losing – and rather badly – on most of these issues for several decades. Change is inevitable, always, but technology plus globalization and global migration has resulted in sudden cultural shifts that are leaving many in society confused, and many conservatives angry, afraid, and confused.

In many conservatives, especially those with wealth and the ambition to seek political office, the end goal of conservatism has shifted in the past few decades from conservative first principles to outright power. Power allows them to fight and occasionally win against what they see as a tide of eroding forces. Because they believe they are the heroes, they will do (almost) anything to attain or maintain it. Lying, cheating, stealing are fully justifiable to them. An easy way to put this is that the ‘ends justify the means’ to them – because they are fighting, and often losing, for things they see as sacred.

For the majority of these conservatives, it’s not so much that they just love oil and coal – except in certain cases if they live in West Virginia or Texas or are named Koch. It’s about protecting what they want to stay the same.

Change is automatically suspicious to them. On climate change, they see the elites of the coasts and cities supporting renewables and new technologies and red flags pop up all around them. They see it not so much as protecting the planet as a power and money grab by their political adversaries. To them, the liberals are wrong about abortion, socialism, and so many other things – they must also be wrong about climate change.

We can bash them all we want. That helps us feel better. But it won’t help. If anything, it will convince them more that they are in the right.

Here’s an article that goes into the change in Republicans recently:
    https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2018/12/how-did-republican-party-get-so-corrupt/578095/

‘The higher cause is conservatism, but the highest is power. After Wisconsin Democrats swept statewide offices last month, Robin Vos, speaker of the assembly, explained why Republicans would have to get rid of the old rules: “We are going to have a very liberal governor who is going to enact policies that are in direct contrast to what many of us believe in.”’

The Oregon state senators consider themselves the heroic underdogs – and they’ll fight until the end using any excuse or practice they can.

Nationally, we have seen and will continue to see the weakening of democratic institutions, the ever greater power of money to influence elections, the precedent and often acceptance of lying and and trickery to support a political side, and the splitting of the nation as the two sides move further apart and demonize each other.

Against this backdrop is the change that is driving it. That change could lead to an aging, self-segregated, and eventually dead conservative party. The tides certainly seem to favor globalization, cultural mixing, and more liberal values in the long run. But, we’re going to see a lot of chaos and fighting of that change for the foreseeable future (like in Oregon, with Brexit, etc) – and who knows what sort of government(s) later generations will inherit. And that’s IF we don’t have a major economic downturn or other breakdown – if that happens, all bets are off.

The Democrats have an empty chamber!

I suggest they gin up some “emergency”, declare martial law; suspend Parliamentary procedure and/or habeas corpus, and/or deputize two janitors as replacement Senators; start passing emergency laws and resolutions galore, including their entire legislative agenda, and perhaps for fun, the new unconstitutionality of objecting to them.

Meanwhile, make use of the weaponization of all the police, state police, and National Guard units across the country, and send swat teams with orders to return any fire with prejudice. Whether that be from Senators of militias.

Anarchy will not, nor should not be tolerated. Call their effing bluff and kill them if they fire. Their decision.

      OOH-Rah and Semper Fi, GB!
That’s the spirit!—-Kill ’em all and let God sort ’em out has always worked.

Time to start some left-wing militias—-should be lots of candidates in the Burlington VT area—-by the power vested in me because I took it, I hereby declare you CIC of the BB (Burlington Battalion) of the left wing militia. You are authorized to offer enlistment bonuses of a year’s supply of Ben and Jerry’s frozen yogurt to all who sign up.

Dog and GB, definite Potential there. James William, beautifully clear scripted tome.

  5. Bryson Brown Says:

The rule of law is dying– it doesn’t require outright illegality to kill it, since simple non-cooperation of enough citizens and politicians can cripple it. Think of McConnell’s ‘rules and comity for thee but not for me’ handling of the Senate, including theft of a Supreme Court seat and refusal to consider legislation from the House or to negotiate any compromises with the other side, the abusive exercise of power beyond constitutional limits at the border, brutal concentration camps that have already killed children, abusing trade rules that allow security based tariffs to be imposed unilaterally by the President, calls for political opponents to be jailed while openly engaging in corrupt practices and self-dealing… it goes on and on, and for all the right’s complaints about ‘jack-booted thugs,’ it’s the right that collaborates with and seeks support from them. Just wait until real climate chaos descends… at some point I fear I”ll be reduced to quoting T.S. Eliot — “…this is the way the world ends,…” (but I fear there will in fact be many bangs involved.

  6. ubrew12 Says:

It seems to me going to the state legislature on behalf of your district is a privilege, not a right. So, if you don’t show up, they take the vote without you.

    • ubrew12 Says:

I guess it goes back to the complaint that founded our nation: “No Taxation Without Representation”. Oregon’s GOP is denying representation to the entire state, much as the King of England once denied representation to the American colonies. The State of Oregon thus has the right to carry around signs saying “No Taxation Without Representation”.
