At a Flat Earth Conference, Parallels with Climate Denial? You Decide.
December 16, 2018
“NASA lies.” Check.
“They’re in it for the money.” Check.
“Do your own research.” Check.
“God’s word is true, He’s in Control, and He’s still up there.” Check, and Check.
December 16, 2018 at 5:08 pm
That’s just the same stupidity. Why are there so many climate denialists and flat-earthers in the United States?
December 16, 2018 at 5:23 pm
Probably because there are no “checks and balances” when it comes to media. They can lie to you and tell whatever they want to without facing any consequence in the “land of the free”.

When I was growing up, my sister had a light telescope through which you could see the spheroidal planets. Younger generations have grown up with CGI, and many generations are learning through devices (phones and tablets) that also provide the most clever animation and fakery. Most will never look through a light telescope or travel outside of their own countries.

With a name like Luukko, you can only be from Finland. Lucky you.
“Last year, on the centenary of its independence, Finland was ranked, by assorted international indices, the most stable, the safest and the best-governed country in the world. It was also the third wealthiest, the third least corrupt, the second most socially progressive and the third most socially just.
“Finland’s judicial system is the most independent in the world, its police the most trusted, its banks the soundest, its companies the second most ethical, its elections the second freest, and its citizens enjoy the highest levels of personal freedom, choice and well being.
“The Nordic country’s 5.5 million inhabitants are also the third most gender-equal in the world and have the fifth lowest income inequality. Their babies are the least underweight, their kids feel the most secure, and their teens perform the second best at reading (only third at science, though)”.
The USA is 29 times bigger, has about 60 times more people, and has had a WAY more complicated history than Finland. Give us some slack, please, before you look down your nose at us.. Lots of things have gone wrong in this country over the past 40 or 50 years, and CD-ers and FE-ers are just two of them. Part of the problem may be that modern communications and media tend to exaggerate anomalies.
December 17, 2018 at 1:48 am
A part of your problem is that the USA is the land of statistics and loud look at me. For example, when an Oz politician goes on a moronic rant, only we hear it and mostly think it is funny. When the USA does the same thing, the whole damn world hears it and mostly think they are crazy. Statistics of silly things Amerikans believe are legion, but generally not collected in other countries so there are no comparisons. Obviously am quite fond of Amerikans, could have just agreed with ‘exaggerate anomalies’. Note: I believe the US is leading the world in a charge to feudalism of minority ‘Aristocracy’ and masses of ‘Peons’.
December 17, 2018 at 9:25 am
You are 100% correct in saying that “the US is leading the world in a charge to feudalism of minority ‘Aristocracy’ and masses of ‘Peons’.” If we don’t deal with Trump soon and the damage the plutocracy and corporations have done to U.S. institutions over the last 40 or 50 years it will be “game over”.

Not the rest?

Send them on the ships which are all sinking when disappearing at the horizon 😉

Always remember, the Flat Earth Society has members all around the globe.

One guy mentioned planes flying by GPS. I wonder how he thinks those GPS thingies know exactly where you are, even in the middle of nowhere. And what does he think “G.P.S.” stands for?
December 16, 2018 at 9:00 pm
LOL. One good point among hundreds that can be made—it’s a waste of time to try with these people—-their reality is belief and feeling based, not rooted in scientific fact. And it’s a bigger problem among the young.

Forbes? Seriously?
Maybe, just maybe, millenials have more of an impish sense of humor when it comes to ridiculous conspiracy theories on idiotic surveys than the rest of the public.
December 18, 2018 at 9:09 am
Ah, GB’s mindless confirmation bias appears once again—-“Forbes?”, he asks?
Yes, FORBES—-just as a blind squirrel occasionally finds an acorn, Forbes, the WSJ, and other right-wing outlets occasionally get it right. Suggest you actually read the piece—-it’s interesting. (And millenials have their heads up their butts in many other ways—-we are not leaving the world in the best of hands).

Did read it. It’s horseshit. Notice the huge “Undecided” numbers? Indicates a problem with the wording.
December 20, 2018 at 10:11 am
No, horseshit is what’s more and more filling that space between your ears where your brain used to live (before the cognitive dissonance virus attacked).
If you had been reading many of the recent poll results and research studies on opinions and attitudes, you’d understand that it’s not a wording problem. More and more, “Undecided” actually means “F***ed up reasoning abilities” (or brains turning to horseshit).

Come on, get a life. The flat earthers have a point. Your home floor is flat, the yard out front and back is flat, assuming you have one. The street is flat or close to it. By logical extension, the county is flat , the nation is flat aside from a few bumps called mountains, the oceans are flat when you look at them, hence the earth is flat and the sun goes around it in a flat circle. Since the sun is smaller than the earth that is why one gets night and day when the sun goes far enough away to not illuminate your chunk of the flat earth. All this was known to the ancients a long time ago before the voodoo folks got control. All those cosmonauts are operating out of a studio in the back lot of Warner Bros. Or maybe we are just having fun with a bunch of stiff necks who really need to chill out,.
December 17, 2018 at 5:01 am
It seems a bit cheap to compare flatearth believers with skeptics.
December 17, 2018 at 9:48 am
In what way is it “cheap”?
December 18, 2018 at 7:12 am
There has never been a scientist declaring the earth to be flat.
December 17, 2018 at 9:05 am
you forgot about the loonies who believe:
directed energy weapons started the california fires,
persistent contrails are chemtrails,
smart meters are dangerous,
5g cell service is dangerous,
the moon landings were faked,
dirty electricity is killing us,
emf fears
when did stupidity become a badge of honor???
or is it the increases in co2 which cause cognative dissonance?

“Exxon and Peabody paid skeptic climate scientists boxes of cash under an agreement where those guys were orchestrated to be merchants of doubt spreading misinformation designed to undercut the settled science of catastrophic man-caused global warming.”
December 18, 2018 at 9:10 pm
I watched it for almost 85 seconds. A guy points out that if global warming melts a hole in Antarctica then Earth’s oceans will drain out into space. We have to get Jim Hansen doing a concerned talk about it. Catastrophic sea level fall.
December 19, 2018 at 11:46 pm
I think I made my point, you folks need to get out of your mothers house more often.
December 22, 2018 at 12:11 pm
You made your point well, and I think we all supported you—-even GupB with his “catastrophic sea level fall”. But don’t forget he’s a number cruncher and actually times his video viewing at Mom’s house—as in “almost” 85 seconds—-that’s some number between 84.5000 and 84.9999 seconds for the math (and humor) impaired.

Global cooling, I mean global warming, I mean climate change, is a hoax. But so is the spinning globe earth.
March 16, 2019 at 8:55 am
there you go. settled science.
