Below, full version of NRA commercial that might be the best representation of the denial mindset ever put on film.

NRA = thugs. All they can do in response to criticism is smash things. It says so right there in their own ad.

Viewable in Canada (after commercial) here:

Hah. Dan Bongino has a hasty video response on John Oliver.

      Backfire or what

      • dumboldguy Says:

They don’t think it’s a backfire—-the whole clip is illustrative of what I call “the demented rooster strutting around the barnyard crowing about his imagined victories/superiority”. (And it got only ~2500 views-;–LOL)

    • dumboldguy Says:

Hasty? Don’t think Stenchfield and Bongonobongo could come up with anything coherent if they spent a month trying. This is a huge embarrassment for the NRA—-I had no idea their }personalities” were so clueless—-if this is the best they can do, we can worry less about them. They’ll NEVER grow beyond their low-IQ WIFI base..

      • Sir Charles Says:

But they still own guns. Loads of them.

      • pendantry Says:

The problem with ‘low-IQ’ is that half of the people are below average intelligence (by definition).

        • dumboldguy Says:

Yes, statistically speaking, IQ is another bell curve (except in Lake Wobegon, where all the children are above average).

When I speak of “low IQ WIFI”, I am referring to the Fox News viewers, the Repugnants, the evangelicals, and the Trump voters that make up the bottom 1/4 of the curve.

I did not like this post, nor did I like John Oliver’s segment, for the following reason:

The NRA does a lot of despicable things, and has some despicable opinions. But the NRA is not the same thing as gun owners.

There are 60 million gun owners in the U.S., and they represent all stripes of people. A whole lot of them are Democrats, a whole lot of them are liberals. And almost every single one of them is a responsible gun owner, deserving of some basic human respect.

In this segment – and I only watched about 1/2 of it, Oliver was denigrating hunters, women, gun enthusiasts, shooting enthusiasts, Southerners simply because of their association with gun sports or some NRA programming.

This is how you dehumanize the other side. This is how you avoid critical reasoning. This is how you polarize America. And this is how Democrats lose elections. Really getting sick of that.

I know I have said it before here…. but there are TWO sides to the whole gun violence issue. People who support gun rights, or like guns, or like shooting, or like hunting, or want a gun for their own safety are not evil. They are not pathetic. They are not wrong. They are not stupid. They are NOT the enemy. They are not the wrong tribe.

And ALL of them are potential Democratic voters unless we alienate them. But alienating them is precisely what the vast vast majority of journalism on the topic of gun control is doing.

When I see bloggers and essayists shouting that the answer is simple and the answer is taking guns away from those 60 million responsible gun owners I want to weep. I see elections being lost because of the testosterone-infused tribal howling of the left – I see the mirror image of the macho bullcrap from the gun crazy NRA.

John Oliver – I love your show. But this, this is not helping.

    Increasingly I favor this approach:
