Communications Expert Sued by #TrumpRussia Perp

February 5, 2018

Above, I used important points from communication expert George Lakoff in the above vid on climate comms.

Dr. Lakoff is now under attack by one of the Trump Tower trolls.

San Francisco Chronicle:

Retired UC Berkeley linguist George Lakoff is being dragged into a legal fight over comments he made about possible Russian influence on Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.

Lakoff was slapped with a libel and slander suit by Irakly “Ike” Kaveladze— a Georgian American businessman who attended a highly scrutinized Trump Tower meeting in June 2016 between members of Trump’s inner circle and Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya. She was allegedly dangling dirt to Team Trump about Hillary Clinton.

The suit Kaveladze filed last week in Orange County Superior Court stemmed from an interview Lakoff gave to MSNBC’s Chuck Todd, in which Lakoff called Kaveladze “the major person who has been responsible for money laundering from Russia and other post-Soviet countries.”

Kaveladze’s suit calls that accusation “baseless and scurrilous.”

Kaveladze’s legal team includes Scott Balber, who represented Trump in a suit he filed against Bill Maher in 2013 after the comedian promised to give $5 million to charity if Trump could prove he wasn’t “the spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan.” Trump eventually dropped the suit.

Lakoff’s lawyer, Travis LeBlanc, promised a vigorous defense, saying California’s free-speech laws “protect individuals like Dr. Lakoff from being forced to engage in costly litigation of frivolous claims.”

Go Fund Me:

George Lakoff is being targeted by a baseless lawsuit  for exercising his First Amendment rights.  A lawyer who has previously represented Donald Trump has filed this lawsuit on behalf of Irakly “Ike” Kaveladze, one of the eight people who attended a controversial meeting in Trump Tower in June 2016. That meeting is currently being investigated  by the highest levels of the United States government. Any amount you can give to Professor Lakoff’s legal defense fund will help protect freedom and truth.

The lawsuit alleges libel and slander. Professor Lakoff has retained a powerful legal team to vigorously defend against this attack on the First Amendment. Defending yourself from meritless lawsuits can be expensive. So, I’m asking my fellow citizens to give what they can to support his legal defense fund. Any donation you make will help pay legal costs – and protect freedom and truth.
About Professor Lakoff: After 50 years of teaching cognitive science and linguistics at universities like UC Berkeley and Harvard, he recently retired at the age of 76. He now dedicates himself full-time to helping Democratic activists communicate more powerfully and effectively in these challenging times. You may have seen some of his work on MSNBC, in newspapers , or on social media . He is also the best-selling author of many books, including the “All New Don’t Think of An Elephant” and “Metaphors We Live By.”

This is the United States of America. Our freedom to speak the truth and enjoy the rights granted by the First Amendment is sacred. We must never allow our voices to be silenced by deep-pocketed individuals who can bury normal citizens with expensive legal costs.

Please join me in standing up for our cherished American values – freedom, truth, and democracy – at this critical time. Please give what you can – and please share this with your friends and family.

  1. Then counter sue for defamation and costs of the first case

  2. J4Zonian Says:

Lakoff, a Berkeley neurolinguist, is someone the left should treasure; someone who could inform everyone’s communication and make us much more effective. He’s had articles on Common Dreams, had a think tank that was one of the rare good answers to the network of right wing fossil-fueled PR firms masquerading as think tanks (The Rockridge Inst.) It’s gone now but I think it’s pages are still archived) Has a tiny book out that summarizes his communication ideas,”Don’t Think of an Elephant” and several others.

  3. Count me on team George

  4. Michael Eisenscher Says:

A golden opportunity for discovery. I’m sure his legal time is compiling an interesting and probing discovery request for documents, email, text messages and recordings that should make for some interesting and revealing reading. Way to go, George!!!
