Not a Joke. EPA Nominee Unable to Read Graph

October 5, 2017

Stupid is as stupid does.

The Hill:

William Wehrum, an energy industry attorney and former Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) official, has been tapped to fulfill one of the agency’s most consequential roles.

President Trump formally nominated Wehrum Thursday to be the EPA’s assistant administrator for air and radiation, where he would oversee a massive portfolio concerned with air pollution, climate change, auto regulation and more.

If confirmed by the Senate, Wehrum would become one of the most powerful people at the 15,000-person agency behind Administrator Scott Pruitt.

He would be responsible for the bulk of a massive deregulatory push by the Trump administration that involves rolling back or potentially revising rules on carbon dioxide emissions from power plants, methane emissions from the oil and natural gas sector, ozone pollution and mercury, among other rules. Most of the regulations were written by the Obama administration.

Wehrum’s detractors point to what they see as industry-friendly regulatory actions that he took during the Bush administration, some of which were later overturned in court.

Wehrum has also expressed doubt that the EPA has the authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions under the Clean Air Act, despite the Supreme Court’s 2007 Massachusetts v. EPA decision stating otherwise.

He helped write a rule to limit mercury pollution from power plants, but it allowed companies to trade pollution credits. The Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit overturned it in 2008, saying that the EPA should have used a more stringent section of the law.

“When Bill Wehrum was at the EPA before, time after time, he was in a leadership role in efforts to weaken clean air protections. And time after time, these attempts were thrown out in court,” said David Baron, an Earthjustice attorney who specializes in air pollution.

“There’s little question he can be expected to fully carry out the Trump-Pruitt agenda of dismantling the clean air and climate protections that have been developed over the last administration, and really the last 40 years of the Clean Air Act,” he said.

Mike Danylak, spokesman for Environment Committee Chairman John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), said the chairman welcomes Wehrum’s nomination.

“Chairman Barrasso knows that Administrator Pruitt needs his full leadership team in place at the EPA in order to ensure America has clean air, land, and water. The committee looks forward to considering Mr. Wehrum’s nomination as well as the other recently nominated assistant administrators of the EPA.”

Perhaps the best job ever of skewering a Trump-Pruitt moron by a Senator. Kudos to Merkley—-I have been ignoring his pleas for a campaign contribution, but this alone is worth $50.

(And why would a grown man wear such a haircut? Is Wehrum hoping to curry favor with the inappropriate-haircut-in-chief?)

  2. Aren’t these people embarrassed about acting so wilfully stupid in public fora? This video will be available for all this gentlemans’ descendants to peruse, as they hide from 50degC temperatures surrounded by burning forest. Hopefully there will be the same intergenerational shame as that felt about past extremist ideologies!

Embarrassment? Shame? Not likely—-these folks don’t know the meaning of the words. I offer as exhibit A the first 30 seconds of Russell Cook’s talk at a Heartland Institute Ignorance Sharing convention.

Others at Heartland and other deniers show similar estrangement from the idea of “embarrassment” or shame—-of note here is Morano’s statement about hurricanes.

      • Still living rent-free in “d.o.g.”‘s mind, I am. But notice how he never ever, never, never EVER, never, ever never advocates for any of you to watch the remaining 11+ minutes of my video, and beseeches y’all to never read anything at my GelbspanFiles blog. There’s a reason for that. Aren’t any of you the least bit insulted that he has so little confidence in y’all that he believes you might fall straight into the dark side from reading my works or watching the rest of that video? Funny thing, too, how our friend “d.o.g.” claims I don’t understand words, but after all this time, literally cannot bring himself to spell out in a guest post at Crocks exactly what it is that I not only get wrong, but supposedly willfully lie about. All show and no go. That’s what’s really embarrassing here, isn’t it?

          ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzz……….!!!

Not at all for your continued wishful thinking is what should embarrass anybody for your blog is unadulterated garbage of the stinky kind, nobody would wish more than one exposure to such. Your lack of self awareness is a wonder to behold, a nematode has more.

        • Torsten Says:

Russell, DOG doesn’t need to show what you’ve gotten wrong. That’s been done by others, myself included, often enough that regular readers here know how unqualified you are to write on this topic. Your failure to acknowledge errors, your continued posting of your BS here and elsewhere, your association with the liars at Heartland, all indicate you are an idiot at the least, or a knowing liar at the worst. You are a waste of time.

          • dumboldguy Says:

Well said, but Russell himself said it best—to quote:

            “I basically can’t believe I’m here.

Heartland must be dragging the bottom if they re getting speakers literally off the street. That’s essentially me.

I have nothing to do with science”.

Russell is more than a “waste of time”—-he is a suppurating sore on the butt of the human race.

          • Torsten Says:

I was trying to be civil. 😉

Note how Russell correctly points out that you did not advocate for anyone to watch any more than the initial 30 seconds of his maundering, and then concludes that it is because you believe the rest of the readers “might fall straight into the dark side from reading my works or watching the rest of that video”. Sheesh. He doesn’t seem to recognize that anyone who starts to watch it is free to keep watching the rest. He doesn’t consider the possibility that your advocating for only the first 30 seconds is an invitation to readers who are tired of his BS that they only have to endure 30 seconds of listening and they’ll hear a whopper.

          • dumboldguy Says:

Sorry, but I lost all urges to be “civil” to Russell many months ago. I am actually being somewhat restrained in my incivility, but only out of respect to some of our more “render” readers.

          • dumboldguy Says:

            OOPS—-tender, not render

    • Lionel Smith Says:

This video will be available for all this gentlemans’ descendants to peruse,…

Gosh, do you mean that some woman has found this creature attractive enough, inside and out, to procreate with? Wonders will never cease!

Upton Sinclair famously noted: It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it.
