Interesting video clip & talk – New Scientist reports Ukraine have proof on the cause of NotPetYa.

Sinister use of cyberspace and the modern world once again – hope the world can find a solution, it is getting well out of hand, whether politically or criminally motivated.

Ukraine claims Russia launched NotPetya ransomware attack.

Although NotPetya appears to be ransomware, designed to encrypt hard disc data and demand a $300 payment in Bitcoin, some security experts now believe it was unleashed more to cause disruption than to make money. Analysis reveals that significantly fewer payments were sent to the NotPetya’s Bitcoin wallet than to WannaCry during the first 24 hours of each outbreak.

More on this shocking recent cyber attack from Reuters.

Ukrainian police on Tuesday seized the servers of an accounting software firm suspected of spreading a malware virus which crippled computer systems at major companies around the world last week, a senior police official said.

The head of Ukraine’s Cyber Police, Serhiy Demedyuk, told Reuters the servers of M.E.Doc – Ukraine’s most popular accounting software – had been seized as part of an investigation into the attack.

Goes to show how trustworthy any Ukrainian claim about Russian actions are. Remember the column of armored vehicles reported by the BBC that never existed?

    Trump meets Putin.

Expect plenty of toadying and ass-licking from America First to the King of the World.

With all due respect to Richard Clarke, I am still surprised that so many Americans are obsessed with yet unproved Russian hacking (McCarthyism 2.0 ???) while ignoring the obvious: The DNC watched outsider Trump takeover the Republican stage so became determined to not let that happen with outsider Sanders on the Democratic stage. So Debbie Wasserman Schultz and others ignored primary voters (much worse than any hacking) then handed the DNC nomination to Clinton. This caused many disenchanted voters to stay home which is why Trump (barely) won. In an alternate universe I would have liked to see the results after outsider Trump went up against outsider Sanders.

Believe it or not, it is possible to both be pissed off at the DNC AND be pissed off at the Russian-Trump connection. Simultaneously. And at the same time. Together.

      • dumboldguy Says:

Except that being pissed at the DNC falls more into the category of sour grapes and whining over spilled milk. It’s now history (except for what it may mean for 2018 ans 2020). Let’s hope those crybaby “disenchanted voters that stayed home” learned their lesson.

The Russia-Trump connection is part of the RIGHT NOW problem that faces the country and the planet. I hope you don’t mind if that’s the one I will be WAY more pissed off at as we teeter on the brink of the apocalypse.

This is all more hyperventilation. The USA is the one that pioneered things like the stuxNet virus, manipulation of social media as a military technique, is spying on the entire world, always meddles in other countries politics (coups galore), just lost a whole suite of sophisticated hacking tools, including specific kits to insert false forensic breadcrumbs. There are billions of cyber attacks going on every day by all kinds of parties. And there is no evidence of the FBI/CIA foiling attacks, at least they couldn’t produce any evidence of doing so at Senate hearings.

In the meantime, this guy is accusing Russia of landing the marines on the beach. This is a nuclear armed country of which the high command has already warned that the US has convinced them they are working on a pre-emptive nuclear strike! The doomsday clock is now closer to 12:00 than ever. Wake up. Crazy foreign policies will lead to unplanned consequences, and worrying about climate change or species extinction or the 2018 elections [how about just not using electronic voting machines and doing it manually] when the “leaders of the free world” are leading us down the path to nuclear extinction.

Forget about all the wars. Every effort needs to be made to solve differences with other tactics than threats and wars if humanity is to have any chance of continuing anything like civilizaton (or even survival).

That is some remarkably scattered thinking. Check your meds.

      • dumboldguy Says:

Yes, in the pairing of Whores for Putin and russian trolls that is Vera and DweebyJ, Dweeby is the one that attempts to demonstrate “thinking”. As you point out, it is quite “scattered”—-I attribute that to DweebyJ’s weak skills at looking up and assembling coherent tidbits from his Handbook of Bullshit for Russian Trolls—-possibly due to improper “meds” (but more likely just imbibing too much vodka in the Moscow basement where he and the other trolls do their work).

Vera on the other hand, is just plain stupid, and shows no skill beyond unsupported bald assertions of “that’s not true” and puerile dumbass gifs. I prefer the small challenge that reading DweebyJ’s BS presents.
