Believe the Scientists

June 16, 2017

Former NASA astronauts Scott and Mark Kelly sat down with CNN’s Rachel Crane at the Breakthrough Awards to discuss the future of scientific research under a Trump administration.  Noting that “97 percent of scientists” agree on climate change, the Kellys suggest believing the scientists may be prudent.

New video coming out soon will deal with the “97 percent”.

If push comes to shove, they can accept Emmanuel Macron’s generous invitation. 🙂

      From the link:

“….Studies of the consensus among scientists on anthropogenic global warming that are based on literature surveys give higher and more consistent results than opinion polls. Using rejection as the criterion of consensus, five literature surveys (11-15) agree closely. They comprise 54,195 articles from 1991-2015 and reveal an average consensus of 99.94%. I estimate that at least 150,000 individual authors wrote those articles ….”

That remainder of .06% equals 325 articles and 900 authors, if my math is correct. At what point does consensus become unanimity?

And the Kelly brothers “suggest” listening to the scientists would be “prudent”? They’re rocket scientists of a sort, so they understand—-too bad The Orange Menace has the intellect of a 5th grader and doesn’t.

99 plus percent of catholic priests believe in God, maybe more. That does not make god real. The data simply does not support the consensus you go on about as to the cause of climate change.

The vostok ice core work for example, shows lags going into and out of the glacier periods of up to 14000 years. The little ice age and preceding medieval warm period had no meaningful CO2 changes before either event either. The current warm up is mostly solar driven as research shows the suns output increased for at least the last 100 years and per NASA models, current changes in earths tilt and orbit will make the world warmer for the next 25000 years.

There is data to support climate change and a current warm up from the little ice age low. There is no data to suggest man is the main driver of that warm up.

If you want to play god on CO2, google MODTRAN and run the program. Doubling CO2 from the current levels will increase the temperature 1C in that model which will take about 300 years. At that point we will be about where the world was in 4000 BP when the arctic was ice free in summer for an estimated 2000 years.

Could it be that Tommy is playing the idiot denier just to make it more obvious than ever that denialism is idiotic? How else could someone manage this combination of misinformation, misunderstanding and sheer unadulterated stupidity?

    • dumboldguy Says:

You’re not the first to suggest that Poe’s Law applies to Tommy. I myself have said that no one could be that stupid and deluded, and therefore Tommy is actually not serious and is doing a parody of a denier just for kicks or for the purpose you stated.

Unfortunately, this “combination of misinformation, misunderstanding and sheer unadulterated stupidity” will be applauded and rewarded by real deniers on sites like WUWT—-they think Tommy is the second coming of Einstein over there.
