Trump to EPA: War is Peace

January 24, 2017

Here it is:

U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration has instructed the Environmental Protection Agency to remove the climate change page from its website, two agency employees told Reuters, the latest move by the newly minted leadership to erase ex-President Barack Obama’s climate change initiatives.

The employees were notified by EPA officials on Tuesday that the administration had instructed EPA’s communications team to remove the website’s climate change page, which contains links to scientific global warming research, as well as detailed data on emissions. The page could go down as early as Wednesday, the sources said.

“If the website goes dark, years of work we have done on climate change will disappear,” one of the EPA staffers told Reuters, who added some employees were scrambling to save some of the information housed on the website, or convince the Trump administration to preserve parts of it.

The sources asked not to be named because they were not authorized to speak to the media.actualthing

A Trump administration official did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The order comes as Trump’s administration has moved to curb the flow of information from several government agencies who oversee environmental issues since last week, in actions that appeared designed to tighten control and discourage dissenting views.

The moves have reinforced concerns that Trump, a climate change doubter, could seek to sideline scientific research showing that carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels contributes to global warming, as well as the career staffers at the agencies that conduct much of this research.

Myron Ebell, who helped guide the EPA’s transition after Trump was elected in November until he was sworn in last week, said the move was not surprising.

“My guess is the web pages will be taken down, but the links and information will be available,” he said.

The page includes links to the EPA’s inventory of greenhouse gas emissions, which contains emissions data from individual industrial facilities as well as the multiagency Climate Change Indicators report, which describes trends related to the causes and effects of climate change.

Facebook – Jacquelyn Gill:

The EPA was just directed to freeze all grants and contracts. This means that grad students and researchers funded on EPA funds are now without funds. All ongoing studies are stopped.

It happened in a moment with a memo, by executive action, with zero input or oversight.

It could happen to any Federal institute, including the National Science Foundation, which funds my lab’s research and several of my students (including their health insurance and living stipends). Trump also froze all federal hiring yesterday as well.

Please, if you can safely raise your voice, raise it loudly. Call your congresspeople, call the White House, write op-eds and articles and blog posts. This is only Day 4.

Please, stand up for science and the environment. This is the emergency we were all worried about.

More fake news from the leftist and AGW crowd, I went to the EPA site, the climate page and forecasts in still there along with the data which is as usual in a format your browser cannot read unless you buy a costly suite of software.

  2. Tom Bates Says:

Incidentally the Federal government is in the hole 500 billion plus this year, the total bill is around 19 trillion which is $100,000 for every man, women and child in the country. To all you people who want your grant, you are dumping a millstone of debt on your kids, my kids and every other citizens kids as we will be dead and they have to pay it off. More money than most families will pay for a home. The federal spending is out of control and has been for years, that has to stop. If your students and you want a grant ask somebody else for the money.

What is going to balloon the deficit and destroy the economy for future generations is The Pussy Grabber’s plan to cut taxes on the rich and increase spending on “infrastructure” and the military with NO way to pay for it other than “trickle down” and “growth”. He’s not in business anymore where he can go bankrupt 6 times and stick others with the bill—-countries don’t work that way.

But of course Bates doesn’t want to understand economics any better than he wants to understand science, so I’m wasting my time.

    • The US Military is already 3 times the size of the next 5 nations combined.
What countries are they planning to invade and occupy.?
Or is it to keep their population in check.?

Note 1984 is on top of Amazon’s book sales list

Note 2 by Patriot Missile launchers have been stationed by the National Guard at the Standing Rock site – Why?

Would they really shoot down news helicopters filming when they move against the unarmed protesters. ?

WHOA! Frank, you’re guilty of spreading s bit of slightly “fake” news there. The Patriot missile system is a “big guns” weapon compared to the much smaller Avenger missile system, which was the system deployed at Standing Rock (and since removed). Let’s not play the game that Trump and his minions play.

“Not only were the Avengers not armed while stationed near the work site—there aren’t even any missiles for the vehicles anywhere in North Dakota, Prokopyk explained. “All munitions are strictly controlled by the United States Army.”

“Prokopyk denied that authorities sent in the Avengers in order to intimidate anti-pipeline activists. “If they were placed to intimidate anyone, it wouldn’t have taken a month for someone to notice them.”

“The North Dakota Guard selected the Avengers for the “observation” mission not only because of the launchers’ night-vision equipment, but also owing to their enclosed, heated cabins, Prokopyk said. Taking into account wind chill, winter temperatures in North Dakota can dip below negative 40 degrees.

All that spin aside, Stingers ARE small enough that a couple of them could be brought on-site in some E-3’s trunk and quickly loaded into the launcher and used to shoot down a news helicopter. That would only happen if the helicopter also trailed a banner saying “Trump has small hands (and other body parts)” or some such.

PS. WashPost reports this AM that the Trump administration is “backing off plans to remove climate pages from EPA website”as well as some of the other draconian steps it planned to take against science. I guess howls of protest and rage from the real world ARE sometimes heard by those in La-La land.

I think 1984 is the wrong metaphor. Although parts are relevant, it’s not nearly as pertinent as what everyone should be reading now: The Iliad and Odyssey.

The story has more elements of our life than most of the dystopian novels; there’s a reason it’s a classic whose appeal has lasted 3000 years. Objectification and possession of women by kings; slow-moving, looming destruction by forces larger than human, foretold by someone who’s right but isn’t listened to. Hubris and militarism, greed, pointless sacrifice (including the involuntary sacrifice of a young girl, demanded by the gods and committed for the desires of the father). Years of suffering for reasons any normal person would think insane. Although 2 modern movies about it–‘Troy’ with Brad Pitt and ‘Helen of Troy’ with Sienna Guillory, emphasize Agamemnon’s militarism and greed for money and power (using the excuse of regaining possession of Helen for his brother, in the original the greed seems to be more about possession of women. The change seems to reflect our situation and projections and to make the motivation for the war more understandable to people living in this greedy militaristic empire and more acceptable to half the audience).

There’s revenge of nature–a river is angered at Achilles for killing so many soldiers who then fall into it. There’s almost total destruction at the end–almost no one survives. And there’s desire by almost everyone, at some time, for it to be over and to just go home.

Lord love a duck! Jeffy is wandering the heights of the “goodly little hill” at Monticello, having intellectual chats with the ghost of TJ and saying that the Iliad and the Odyssey better describe the present than does 1984? (Quick! Squeeze the duck and make it quack!)

First, there is nothing “heroic” about The Pussy Grabber or any of his minions (or very many of the opposition either, for that matter). Second, we don’t much need ancient metaphors when we have the RIGHT NOW reality of the Trump disaster looming over us. Get real!
