How to Confront Harassment in the Age of Trump

January 19, 2017

Why post this on a climate blog?
Because I’ve been saying that climate denial and racism are fundamentally linked for years, and the Republican Party just proved it to the world.

Because we are going to have to confront ignorance in all its forms, which has been licensed and emboldened by the narcissistic, bullying, racist, misogynist, Climate Denier in Chief.

And because, having spent a few moments hugging a friend, a soft spoken, hard working, professional who I’ve watched struggle to earn respect, and an American masters degree, who had garbage dumped on her driveway after the election, for no other reason than that she was from Zimbabwe,  I can’t wait, I really. really. can’t. wait. to confront one of these.

I promise to be polite.

Just saw this and I CANNOT believe that the single vote this post had gotten was a one star “very poor”—-probably Tom Bates or one of the other anal orifices who doesn’t have the guts to come out from under their rock and engage. I will bring up the average by giving it the five star rating it deserves—-it is an excellent one-minute lesson on “how to do it” for any American who cares about the country.

Yes, racism and other “unChristian” behaviors have been centered in the Repugnant Party for many years now, and are going to take a quantum leap with the ascension of President Climate Denier aka President Pussy Grabber (and I still can’t believe that’s happening tomorrow). Everyone needs to remember that Trump and his supporters are all certifiably crazy (and may carry guns), and that should be kept in mind when “confronting” them. I had to do a lot of “confronting” as a high school administrator back in the day, but I’ve been retired for near 25 years and it’s now a brave new world. I’ve only done it a couple of times since (both 10+ years ago), and in situations that were low key—-a simple “that’s enough” and 6’1″ and 220 pounds standing there glowering did the trick. Back in the 80’s and 90’s, stepping in and “confronting” was easy and usually got quick results—-today there are armed policeman in many schools because that task has gotten much harder, and the results often show up on facebook videos.

I would be careful confronting anyone who would dump garbage like that. They re probably retarded mouth breathers like the one who twisted the rear windshield wiper arm on my van into a pretzel because I had Hillary and Vote Blue stickers on the rear window. (Or carry a gun—VA is an open carry state but I’m thinking of applying for concealed carry if things go really bad under the Pussy Grabber)

I see from your post what is the problem with you people. When confronted with something you do not like you simply start calling people names like the writer of this posting and you. If you could give an actual example of anti science than we could ask least discuss that pro and con. Instead you leap to nasty words and calling people names. Anybody with a brain recognizes that is the resort of people who have nothing to say, they are the Lenins, Stalins and Pol Pots of the world.

I might point out it is people like you who are rioting, burning up cars, smashing window and acting like thugs, not Trump supporters who simply want a government which helps bring jobs, is interested in security and will make the future better for everybody.

Since you offer no science example here is a foreign policy example of the problem as I see it. An example of why we lost faith in Obama, a person I voted for twice. The example is the recent bombing of the ISIS training camp in Syria. Apparently Obama and his people knew about that camp since 2013 and only got around to bombing it last week. How many thousands of fighters, who cut off heads, went threw training in that camp while Obama was sitting on his rear end is unknown. Since 100 were supposed to have been killed in the attack, it must have been thousands. Obama did the same on the bombing of the oil trucks which ISIS used to sell oil to Turkey which was an unofficial allie of ISIS for years. Obama never bombed them until Russia bombed them than he had a photo op moment.

Much of Obama and science acts the same way. He and they leap for the photo op moment without a shred of evidence to back him or them up. His minions in the government do the same thing when it comes to science and federal policy.

“If you could give an actual example of anti science than we could ask least discuss that pro and con”, says Tommy Poo.

        WTF!!!
        CAERBANNOG 666!!!!!
        WHERE ARE YOU?

You have given Tommy Poo examples of his “anti science” about temperatures MANY times and asked him to discuss it, he has ignored you every time, but now he’s ready to discuss it!!!! Take him up on it!

The rest of his comment is just maundering mindless BS, but this first part may be a breakthrough.

  2. really excellent video, thanks for posting it.

Personally, I hate racists with a red hot passion. I will fight back.

  3. And what have I been doing in polite, profanity-free, hate word-free form ever since 2014 when Roald Larsen first mentioned my work? Confronting harassment speech hurled against so-called ‘crooked skeptic climate scientists’ with the simple question of whether any of you have any evidence that would stand up in a courtroom evidentiary hearing proving the accusation. I even went so far as to employ the “are you ok?” tactic in the video hear months back, in suggesting that I should bail out of these comments so as not to be responsible for prompting a rage-induced debilitating / fatal stroke for commenter “dumboldguy”. What have I been met with? The exact kind of hateful confrontation speech you claim to despise and want to eradicate.

Guys, there are right-wing folks out there who need civility lessons. But broad-brush an entire electorate with unrestrained, unsupportable hate speech, and you end up looking exactly like the cartoon character portrait you paint of your opposition. Try looking in the mirror and asking yourselves if you really like what you see.

OK Russell you asked for it.

This recently appeared on the CATO website and we know that Michaels is up to his armpits and gonads in fossil fuel cash he even admitted it himself. This is why he now uses climate models as a target for his disingenuous schtick having realised that ‘the (non existent) pause’ no longer flies.

It is no surprise that in the new Trump anti-knowledge climate that weevils such as you feel emboldened to come out of the woodwork more often and try to undermine the future of humanity and that of the unfortunate fellow travellers, the other creatures so little understood by a supposed superior species, so superior they want to continue fouling their own nest. Keep your $h!t to your own bed you regressive. Evolution clearly stopped before you popped out, maybe there is something in that ‘punctuated equilibrium’ after all.

      • dumboldguy Says:

Ah yes, Patrick Michaels. He is but one of the denier whores who is “up to his armpits and gonads in fossil fuel cash”. My “Exhibit B” at Russell’s crimes-against-humanity trial will be the great work done by InsideClimateNews in exposing the infamous emails sent by Fred Singer of Heartland to his denier collaborators after the publication of Merchants of Doubt (which book and movie will be Exhibit C). For those who haven’t seen it:

        https://insideclimatenews.org/news/12032015/leaked-email-reveals-whos-who-list-climate-denialists-merchants-of-doubt-oreskes-fred-singer-marc-morano-steve-milloy

This from the desmoglblog page on Russell, who, unsurprisingly, is on the list of recipients of Singer’s email. Crockers may recall that I have asked Russell to explain to us MANY why he is on the recipients list and gotten no answer. You may also recall that Russell and Singer have such a close relationship that Russell has bragged about the pin on his baseball cap being given to him by Singer and that I then referred to Singer as Russell’s “Uncle Fred” (and he also signs Russell’s whoring for Heartland paychecks).

“InsideClimate News reports in their article “Leaked Email Reveals Who’s Who List of Climate Denialists,” how “Many of those copied on the email thread, such as Singer and communications specialist Steven Milloy, have financial ties to the tobacco, chemical, and oil and gas industries and have worked to defend them since the 1990s.”

He is there so that he can stalk Ross Gelbspan and throw out inflammatory accusations.

          • Wish I had more time to joust with you guys, but as can be seen at my blog, I’m busy. So, in brief here today: notice how both Lionel Smith and “jpcowdrey” walk straight into their own self-made traps. Both feel compelled to point to entire pages or court cases WITHOUT blessing any one of you with the specific EVIDENCE proving dishonest/fraudulent conduct skeptic scientists involving bribery. Until y’all prove they or I knowingly lie, and are paid to do exactly that, YOU. HAVE. NOTHING. Learn it, live it, and love it.

Then there’s the false premise problems y’all are enslaved to. I said it before in Crocks comments, I’ll say it again: I was in that email chain because Fred Singer knows full well how I’ve dissected myriad faults with Gelbspan’s and Oreskes’ ‘corrupt skeptics’ accusation narratives. It is that simple. And, had Lionel Smith actually read my collective work, he’d know his own bit about me as a ‘Gelbspan stalker’ is totally false. I set out trying to prove Gelbspan’s accusations true, in the face of any corroborating evidence from anyone else, and all I’ve ran into is inconsistencies galore from that guy. Notice how Lionel says “inflammatory” as opposed to “debunked.” Truth is, neither you guys nor the folks at Desmogblog actually lift a finger to refute any one of the details I have about that guy. Learn it, live it, and love it.

    • Tom Bates Says:

At least you seem to be a civil person with which one can discuss policy and science. The actual discourse on the science does need a civil discussion with at least verifiable science to back it up. The science is not fixed no matter how many times one repeats 97 percent. Much of the actual data is going different directions so when one claims God is on their side that usually means somebody is looking for money to pad their own pocket.

      • dumboldguy Says:

This comment may be the best illustration ever of how clueless (or what a clever POE) Tommy Poo really is.

RUSSELL freaking COOK us “a civil person with which one can discuss policy and science”?. And Tommy Poo says to Russell (the whore for fossil fuels) “…when one claims God is on their side that usually means somebody is looking for money to pad their own pocket”?

Lord love a duck, but the magnitude of the cluelessness and irony is overwhelming—–I’m rendered speechless by it

        • Prove that I’m not civil – point to any outright or veiled profanity that I’ve used, for example. Who would say foul language is “civil?” Peter told me way back in late 2014 to ‘keep it clean, bro’ even though I never used profanity prior to that and wasn’t being profane at that time. Are you proud of all the stuff you’ve written against me, does the bulk of it fit the definition of acceptable civil discourse? Think about it, friend, this ongoing psychological projection appearance problem you and your fellow AGWers have is not going to win fence-sitting converts over to your side. I suggest it is a cancer eating the issue alive from within, and it will be ever more impossible to hide it.

  4. utterly pathetic bullshit from climate denier Cook, a man who is a paid tool of fossil fuel companies.

Try looking in the mirror and asking yourselves if you really like what you see.

Now THAT, is an expression which aptly defines the term ‘utter gall’.

    Disgusting sellout.

    • dumboldguy Says:

Russell is more than a just a “disgusting sellout”, he is a suppurating lesion on the butt of humanity. He again makes the claim about “what he has been doing (has been) in polite, profanity-free, hate word-free form”, when ALL of us here on Crock know that he is a deceitful, despicable, deplorable lying POS—-that the thoughts and motives beneath the “politeness” of his posts are those of a whore and “disgusting sellout”.

No one has harassed the so-called “climate skeptic” scientists (a contradiction in terms that—-can’t be a scientist and be skeptical of AGW) the way the real scientists like Mann have been harassed and defamed, and Russell himself has been labelled a “harasser” on one site where he overstepped his bounds with his incessant bullshit and got banned. (And I have to laugh at Russell’s email address—–has anyone not noticed that it’s “@questionAGW”? Which raises the question why anyone with that disposition would visit a site like this except to be a troll for fossil fuels—–yes, “gall” is a good descriptor).

And now Russell is whining about he and his ilk being subjected to “hateful confrontation speech” and tries to conflate that with Crockers’ rejection of the bad science of the deniers and Russell’s lying bullshit. JFC! (some appropriate profanity there). Russell, we abuse YOU because you abuse the truth, and it has nothing to do with “broad-brushing an entire electorate” We are talking about YOU, and I for one have no trouble looking in the mirror and liking what I see after I reply to you.

    • At a blog post on hurling hateful accusation speech, you hurled a hateful accusation. I am not paid in any fashion to do what I do and there is literally no way you can prove otherwise, along with proving I’m a tool or a sellout.

Look in the mirror and you will see yourself as exactly what you despise. Does it not creep you out that you make accusations based solely on emotion, devoid of any concrete evidence?

      • dumboldguy Says:

” I am not paid in any fashion to do what I do” says Russell the whore for fossil fuels.

Do you still receive any remuneration of any sort from The Heartland Institute’ As you did in the past and freely admitted? Yes or No? Explain to us why Heartland gives you $$$$.

Do you receive any remuneration if any sort for the pieces you submit to various climate denier and right wing sites like WUWT and American (stinky) Thinker. Yes or No?

(And the fact that you ARE “a tool or a sellout” has been obvious to us from your very first post here. Try as you might to turn that around on us, the burden of proof is on YOU to prove that you’re not—-that all the obvious denier BS you have posted here is motivated by something OTHER than the $$$$ Heartland has given you).

  5. DOG and Greenman: FYI, I usually read Crocks from a browser that doesn’t allow the scripts that do the thumbs up/down thing; less often, I read Crocks from my phone, which does. So here’s my vote that this is a great post. And, just for the record, I can’t wait, either. I’m bigger than a lot of football players, so people notice when I get involved.

  6. dumboldguy Says:

Yes, size helps, but be careful. Memorize the “active bystander” steps and apply them—-they work on almost everybody that’s not drunk—-“never argue with a drunk” is one of the first lessons rookie cops (and school administrators) learn on the job.

Having some martial arts skills can be helpful too—-judo and krav maga come to mind (and I’m not kidding about the gun permit).

    • Tom Bates Says:

So your idea as Hillary supporters is to beat up on anybody who disagrees? Maybe your real calling is being thugs.

      • dumboldguy Says:

“…beat up on anyone who disagrees”?

There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind here that YOUR real calling in life is to be a doorstop, or a paperweight (although you’d probably do that as poorly as you read and understand comments on Crock).

      • MorinMoss Says:

“So your idea as Hillary supporters is to beat up on anybody who disagrees? Maybe your real calling is being thugs”

Trump’s righthand man is Steve Bannon, a founding member of Breitbart News.
Andrew Breitbart, may he mulch in peace, once said “Fire the 1st shot because I know they can only when a rhetorical war because we outnumber them in this country and we have the guns”
