Reblogged this on A Green Road Daily News and commented:
Don’t you just hate when that happens?

2008 as the “coldest year this century”? A staggering 0.09 °C cooler than then-record warmest El Niño year 1998, the year that the denialists claim warming stopped.
They really are that clueless, it seems.

So, like Delingpole, Rudge is soon going to claim he was “intellectualy raped”? LMAO
There is apparently a growing need in the UK for someone to run classes for deniers on how to avoid this happening to them—-you know, just as those in the U.S. educate women on how to avoid the real thing?—-don’t “dress provocatively”, don’t go into strange places alone at night, don’t get drunk, don’t behave in a way that “asks for it”.
The difference being that here too many unfairly blame the victim with that approach—with the deniers, they victimize themselves through their willful ignorance and deserve everything they get.

No doubt about it, 2008 was the coolest year of the 21st century. But 2008 was also warmer than 99 out of 100 years in the 20th century. Sir Alan only got one thing right: he was a mug.

Was? With how he’s whinging? Still is, I’d say, and making public display of it.
January 24, 2016 at 12:25 pm
Just as an aside, I love the word ‘whinging’ 🙂
January 24, 2016 at 12:50 pm
Me too, and I’ve added it to the other new words I’ve learned on Crock—–wanker and sheep shagger.

And then there is the other ‘W’ word that came up in the Ban Trump debate in Parliament, “Wazzock”. Which, for those that missed it, is an annoying know-nothing know-it-all.

He wasn’t happy about (unaware of) 2008 being a cool(ish) year as a starting point.
Ok, what possible year could he have agreed upon in which he would not have lost the bet?
January 23, 2016 at 10:31 pm
Yeah, even during the ENSO-neutral years after 2011, the year the bet was made, the temperature did not fall more than 0.1 C below the hottest year that had been reported up to that time.
And in typical denier fashion, Rudge misrepresents why he lost the bet, claiming that Hope won because of the El Nino. Pathetic.
January 23, 2016 at 5:48 pm
He could have picked not just 2008, but any year in recorded history and still lose!
January 23, 2016 at 9:45 pm
Thanks, Peter. You just made my day.

2015 was nor just the warmest year on record. It also has unequivocally burst another boundary:
January 24, 2016 at 9:02 am
In the interest of fairness and compassion, perhaps Dr. Hope could issue a very public letter offering Sir Alan the opportunity to retroactively choose any year in recorded history as the baseline for the bet. His inability to find a single year which results in winning the bet would make a strong statement that the science-deniers can’t so easily write off.

You’d have thought that he would have considered that before, as Timothy phrased it, he started ‘whinging’ about being ‘fooled’.
