Thanks for posing this nice short cartoon bite, putting things in a nutshell. . . a slightly more in depth analysis by Bob Henson in today’s Dr Jeff Masters Wunderblog.

Seems the odds are in favor of El Nino diminishing the blob, not sure how much recovery will take place within the affected ecosystems in this climate change roller-coaster we have encouraged.

Nice bit of accessible science….. but I was hoping for something more along the classic horror genre – Steve McQueen and friends getting sucked into the Blob, El Nino to the rescue somehow… ?

  3. I’m a surfer in Los Angeles, California. The ocean water here have been persistently warmer this year, averaging in the low to mid 70’s. Usually at this time of year it would be around the mid 60’s. Also, my friend and I have noticed that it seems much more humid than usual in the region this summer and fall. I wonder if that is the result of higher than normal ocean temps.

All the same, it’s nice to not need my wetsuit this late into the season. The blob can stick around for a while, imho.
