Mike Mann on the Cost of Truth Telling

April 23, 2015

More from Michael Mann’s interview at our historic AGU Sessions from December 2014.

Mann’s interview, and dozens of others, are part of the Massive Online Open Course (MOOC), from Skeptical Science, described elsewhere on this page.

The more I read and hear about Dr. Mann, the more I admire him.

    • The more I read about Michael Mann, the more I realize he is all about promoting a political agenda and has no problem engaging in dishonest science to advance that agenda.

      • greenman3610 Says:

He presents evidence. You have not.

      • The more I read the comments of folks like Paul K Odgen, the more sick I get to my stomach. They fiddle with the truth while the world burns. Not simply intellectually objectionable (stupid) but morally objectionable.

      • dumboldguy Says:

Paul is a lawyer and a Republican who has no business commenting on a climate change blog. He is merely spouting the same right wing horseshit that we hear from so many of the willfullly ignorant science illiterates who call themselves “conservatives”. Ignore him.

      • akanaja Says:

Not to pile on here, but you do need to present evidence that he has engaged in dishonest science. However, I hear you’re a lawyer so I expect you may have difficulty distinguishing between honest and dishonest so first please check a reputable science site to make sure your “evidence” hasn’t been debunked: You don’t want to appear foolish again.

  2. Hey Peter — I’m signed up for the course, but now that I realize how much you’ve contributed, I think maybe I could teach it. Making your video blog a habit has made me into a reflex debunker. Thanks!

This is a scientist for God’s sake and thankfully he had the strength of character to carry on and not let if affect his work too much. It is one thing too threaten him, but to threaten his family too is terrible and I can’t imagine the type of person who would be capable of this. They are lower and more disgusting than our turds traveling through sewer systems. We (mankind) owe a lot to him and scientists like him and hopefully there is still time to avoid the worst.

    • Don’t besmirch the innocent turd by comparing it to a science denier, please.

    • dumboldguy Says:

Actually they are even lower than what you describe.

USMC Drill Instructors are constantly telling recruits that they are “lower than whale shit” and asking them if they know why that is so. The answer is that whale shit sinks to the bottom of the ocean and nothing can sink lower than that.

That’s where you’ll find the deniers who threaten Mann—-at the bottom of the ocean, covered in whale shit, horsepucky, and BS.
