The Way We Weren’t: Inhofe Singles out Streisand as Global Warming Hoaxer in Chief
December 4, 2014
Senator Jim Inhofe continues his bid to become to Climate Denial what Strom Thurmond was to Civil Rights.
You Go, Jimbo. Don’t let the damn libble meedyuh tell you what to think! God is telling you what to do!
Singer Barbra Streisand took to Twitter Tuesday night to attack the Senate’s best-known climate change skeptic.
Streisand slammed Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) for his views on global warming after reading an article published Tuesday in Mother Jones that included comments made by the senator in 2009 at the United Nations climate change convention in Copenhagen.
In an interview with Mother Jones back in 2009, Inhofe said “Hollywood liberals and extreme environmentalists” engineered the hoax that he calls climate change.
When pressed on who in Hollywood specifically did it, Inhofe said: “Barbra Streisand.”
Below, Senator Inhofe demonstrates that he is in denial about a whole lot more than climate.
Look around us, I said, spreading my arms wide. There are thousands of intelligent and well-meaning people in this gigantic conference center: scientists, heads of state, government officials, policy experts. They believe that climate change is a serious and pressing threat and that something must be done soon. Do you believe that they have all been fooled?
Yes, he said, grinning.
That these people who have traveled from all points of the globe to be here are victims of a well-orchestrated hoax?
Yes, he said, still smiling.
That’s some hoax, I countered. But who has engineered such a scam?
Hollywood liberals and extreme environmentalists, Inhofe replied.
Really? I asked. Why would they conspire to scare all these smart people into believing a catastrophe was under way, when all was well?
Inhofe didn’t skip a beat: To advance their radical environmental agenda.
I pressed on: Who in Hollywood is doing this?
The whole liberal crowd, Inhofe said.
But who?
Barbra Streisand, he responded.
I nearly laughed. All these people had assembled in Copenhagen because of Barbra Streisand. A singer and actor had perpetuated the grandest con of the past 100 years?
That’s right, Inhofe said, with a straight face. And others, he added.

We hope Inhofe will become the face of climate denial around the planet? Yep, he’s a great bad example, but are enough people smart enough to see that? What makes me despair of us ever getting it right is that large numbers of our “enlightened citizenry” in the backwaters of the country keep voting for the Inhofes (just as they kept voting for Strom in SC). You can just picture them thumping their bibles and nodding in agreement with Inhofe just as they agreed with Strom. Actually, Inhofe already IS the Strom Thurmond of the AGW non-debate in so many ways. Maybe he’ll reprise Thurmond more fully by turning out to be the father of some famous environmental “hoaxer”?
150 years and counting and we still haven’t worked our way out of the race mess. We had better find some way to move a lot faster on AGW—–CO2 levels will be at 750+ PPM in 150 years.
PS The Thurmond link is worth reading—-lots of great commentary in there.

It’s not just Inhofe as the Strom Thurmond of climate cataclysm; we also have (the) TVMOB of climate cataclysm: TVMOB.

…maybe it has something to do with that bad microbe that infected him after swimming in those overheated Oklahoma waters a while back? I propose we re-christen that bug “Mad Inhofe Disease”.

Don’t worry, Peter. One day, Inhofe will be pointing at you! You deserve his attention much more than Barbara.

James Inhofe (now aged 80) is just another example of “crazy old white man” syndrome. Once they get to a certain age, they think every idea that springs into their head is unique then they try to force it down the throats of everyone else. It was people like this who told me in the 1960s that continental drift was a dumb theory (it now goes by the name “plate tectonics”), carbon dating would never be taken seriously (it is now one of a dozen radiological clocks accepted by accredited scientists). But the same guys bend over backwards trying to tell you the world is only 6000 years old and that the story of Noah’s Flood is true.
