About 100 years ago or so, folks were faced with a similar dilemma: gas lighting was the prominent night time lighting source for the middle class, and it cost 25 pounds to retrofit one’s home with electric lighting, whilst at the time the average take home was about a pound and a half or so per week. Upgrading to electric lighting was a significant investment.

andrew – The third industrial revolution does not require massive infrastructure. De centralizing power and many other things is the trend. You might find this interesting.
