Obama Keeps the Zingers Coming for Climate Deniers
June 26, 2014
The pseudo-scientific pretenders of climate denial take themselves very seriously, and they hate ridicule more than anything else.
Trust me on that one.
It speaks volumes about what internal polls are telling the White House, what I’ve been observing for the last 2 years. The pendulum has swung, and will continue to do so, on climate. The Earth is now speaking in a voice loud enough for all reasonable people to hear. The outliers, and the out-and-out liars, of climate denial, need to be confronted, refuted, and to the degree that they persist, treated like, well, like this.
The sarcastic bear is loose, and he’s loving every minute of it.
President Barack Obama is letting his inner Don Rickles run free, mocking climate deniers as the crowd who used to think the moon was made out of cheese or spineless dopes who can’t or won’t listen to science even though the science is all overwhelmingly pointing in one direction. Their heads are in the sand. They are members of the Flat Earth Society.
For the White House it’s about getting the liberal base excited for the midterms. It’s a confidence that climate change has shifted in voters’ minds. It’s a broader play against congressional Republicans as obstructionists.

If the pendulum had been swinging he’d be reaching out to independents. Rallying the liberal troops means he’s not even sure of their votes.

I know mental onanism is rife around here. But idiotic (and baseless) remarks don’t change the situation: “For the White House it’s about getting the liberal base excited for the midterms” is all that counts.

Nonsense. Shaking down donors is also big business for the White House.

Well I’d suggest you actually find out what the sin of Onan was. Ask your local Prosperity Gospel minister – he won’t charge too much

While I love to hear President Obama make such comments, I can’t help but think: “six years too late, Mr. President”.

Obama is clearly one of the cleverest rhetoricians of this or any age. Sadly, all too many people, including Obama, confuse rhetoric for leadership.
American politics is at an awkward stage where the talents needed to campaign for office effectively fail to produce genuine leaders and qualified administrators. It simply produces more self-referential campaigners on the make.

Same happened in Britain in 1997 with Blair. All talk and enthusiasm and no substance. The one legacy he left, it’s Iraq. The people have only themselves to blame.

Best to take your own advice then, right?

So Tony Blair is like Congressional Republicans?
Because Obama has done the following; ended DOMA,withdrawn from Iraq, Healthcare reform, clearing chemical weapons from Syria, increase the minimum wage for Federal workers and those working on Federal contracts …

You could at least have avoided Iraq ;-/
