Dark Snow Project 2014

There’s probably never been a day with grimmer tidings on the impact of ice melt and sea level rise.
The focus of this week’s news is Antarctica – but for most of this century, the action will be in Greenland, where Dark Snow Project travelled last year, and successfully completed our dual mission of good science and good communication.

The check is in the mail. Although the 2013 results look pretty conclusive, there is no harm in going back up there looking for more data and trying to get even more attention focused on Greenland. Since the melting of the Greenland ice sheet and the Arctic ice are of immediate and pressing concern to those of us in the northern hemisphere, it would be bad if Antarctica now got all the attention.

we know there is a spike in Black carbon, but we need to know more about where it came from. We are also looking at the changes in the biological community on the ice sheet – as mentioned here

I will donate, but it would be AWEsome if it didn’t result in more junk mail from Dr. Fox’s university asking me for more donations all the time… 🙂

I assume you’re referring to Ohio State? I had the same experience and wrote them a note that I would likely NEVER support ANY OSU Foundation effort beyond Dark Snow, that I supported my own alma mater and my childrens’, and that they should save the postage. They listened and the flow of mail stopped. I suspect that this new and more limited foundation (which IS quite new) is not likely to bombard us with requests for $$$.
(And I’m dying to know—-why Wausau? Been there—-nice town, nice people, visited my brother there, but hardly the place I’d pick for the headquarters of a group like this)

we ran some of our funding thru OSU last time, because Dr. Box was still employed there.
He no longer teaches at OSU, is at the Danish Geological Survey, and we have a separate 501c3, so there shouldn’t be issues such as you’ve had.

We need a Dark Snow Down Under – where far less pollution is expected, so any that will be found will provide a lot of lessons.

We need a Dark Snow down under? I am stunned by the brilliance of the suggestion and Omno’s reasoning. And why no Turney? Even though Jason Box COULD go to Antarctica in the Arctic’s off-season, the airfare would be quite high—-Turney is a lot closer.

A better answer than Omno’s is that “a Turney” (last name) is an Australian scientist and climate researcher (from the University of new South Wales) who studies the Antarctic. Omnidiot is hanging his size 3-1/2 hat on the fact that Turney was among those on a ship trapped by floating ice down there last year.
If this were a political forum, Omno would be chanting “Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi, Birth Certificate” along with the other fools who beat dead horses because they’re afraid of live ones.

Benghazi isn’t just an episode. It”s one failure of many. Please let me know of a single nation that has benefited from President Obama’s meddling into its politics.

Dang, our boy is not going to swear off saying dumb things about Benghazi in the future. It’s part of his tired list of “single failures among many”. Of course, Omno probably can’t tell us WHY it’s a failure, but that doesn’t stop his parroting.

Please forgive me. I thought “Benghazi” being in a foreign country was a matter of foreign policy. Not for a man of the world like you.
Am also puzzled by the idea that the POTUS would’ve been “meddling” with the USA. I thought it was his own country and he the leader. Silly me!

I try to take into account that English is your second language, that you don’t think very logically in any language, and that you are ignorant of so many things about America.

FYI, The fact that Benghazi is in a foreign country has NOTHING to do with anything but geography. The furor in this country over Benghazi had nothing to do with foreign policy either.
Also FYI, among those of who understand English, the use of “—–” marks around “meddling” means that other than literal definitions may be in use, and other things may be meant by the word so enclosed. It was stupid of you to use “meddling” anyway—-U.S. Presidents do not “meddle” in other country’s politics by anything they do, they take actions they perceive as in the best interests of the U.S., period. Other countries may accuse us of “meddling” because they don’t like our actions and perceive them as being against THEIR national interests, but that’s a relative “truth”. I was merely playing off YOUR use of “meddling”, but you are apparently incapable of understanding the English language or thinking on that level, and I would give substantial odds that you will have no idea what I said in this paragraph. A pity, that.

I told what I thought of the birthers (a waste of time) and of Benghazi (the n-th example of the failed foreign policies by President Obama – a man capable to transform in war and destruction every international issue he sticks his nose in).
