Climate-Change-Denial Doofus Turns Climate-Change-Acknowledging Doofus

April 26, 2014

GOP Congressman decides climate change is real. Then gets indicted for campaign finance violations.
Same guy that threatened to shove reporter off a balcony.

Can we take this  as a sign that Tea Party republicans are rethinking climate change? (as opposed to just the pointy headed intellectual RINOs)

Rep. Michael Grimm (R-NY), who threatened to throw a TV reporter off of a balcony at the State Of The Union, will be indicted for campaign finance violations.

The New York Times has details on the charges that Grimm is expected to face:

The charges against Mr. Grimm, 44, a Republican who was first elected in 2010 and represents Staten Island and a portion of Brooklyn, will include mail fraud and wire fraud and focus on his conduct in connection with a health food restaurant he owned on the Upper East Side of Manhattan after he left the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2006, one of the people said.

The investigation of the second-term congressman, by the F.B.I. and prosecutors in the United States attorney’s office in Brooklyn, began more than two years ago with an examination of Mr. Grimm’s fund-raising for his 2010 race. Two of his fund-raisers have already been charged, one with illegally funneling more than $10,000 into his campaign.

Here is video of Rep. Grimm threatening to throw an NY1 reporter over a balcony on the night of the State Of The Union:

The good news for Democrats is that Republicans are stuck with Grimm. Rep. Grimm was already designated by the state party as the Republican nominee, so they can only get him off the ballot if he moves out of the district, runs for a judgeship or gets convicted before November. Since none of those things is going to happen, it looks like Democrats have a good chance of picking up a House seat in a district that Obama won by 4 points in 2012.

“Climate change attracts yet another corrupt politician” 8-D

  2. Unfortunate that a GOP member who is willing to go on record as supporting the science, is also being indicted on bribery charges. Wish that had come out BEFORE he went on ‘Years of Living Dangerously’. Oh well.

  3. You’re not thinking sleazy enough. He doing the old fall on your sword routine for the party. He knows he going down on those charges so he switches positions on climate change so that when he goes down the other deniers can say see it is just a scam – the global warming conspiracy attracts corrupt politicians wanting to make money off of it. – There is no depth of dishonesty that a Republican will not sink to.

Apparently Mr Sinclair cannot read when it comes to Democrats and their stupid ideas. President Obama for example wants to get us into war in Syria to support a bunch of Muslims who want us dead, killing their own is just a sideline and in Russia wants to start another cold war after stealing the Ukraine for only 31 billion in taxpayer dollars. Obama hired thug ran the elected Premier out of town at gunpoint, something the evil Republicans never did to Clinton. In California 3 Senators have been criminally charged, one of whom was for strict gun control just like Holder. That senator was caught trying to sell guns illegally overseas. The others just lied about various things to make money. Given a choice between a nutty Republican who thinks climate change is unreal and a nutty Federal Attorney general and President who ran guns to the Mexican cartels and want in us a war, I will take the Republican with open arms and then give him his meds.

    • You forgot to list Benghazi.

    • dumboldguy Says:

Why don’t you just share YOUR meds with him. It sounds like you must be taking a significant number of some pretty potent drugs to keep your own mental problems under control (and apparently with limited success).

As I said on another thread, take your right wing delusions and parroting of horsepucky talking points over to a site where they will be appreciated. You know, those places where everyone has handles like Patriot, Real American, Warrior, and Don’t Tread on Me. You’ll fit right into the circle of ignorance and Obama bashing that you will find there.

      • mfellion Says:

You sure sound pissed off. What exactely is false in what I said. That Obama is all for war, terrorist war in Syria, that Holder did not send guns to the Mexican cartel, that the Republican guy is delusional, that Obama spent 31 billion with the help of the EU to make an illegal change in the government of the Ukraine, the 3 california senators, all democrats are not crooks? Kindly tell me what is incorrect.

        • dumboldguy Says:

At least you’re astute enough to realize that your mindless BS pisses me off. Congratulations on that, Sherlock!

ALL of what you have listed is “incorrect”, because ALL of it is merely tired old right wing BS and has NOTHING to do with why we visit Crock. YOU yourself are a motivated reasoner that is “incorrect” to the point of irrelevancy. Did you not get the hints from others about forgetting to include Benghazi and the IRS “scandal” (and I will add Solyndra) among your inanities? They were trying to be polite—-I am rather more blunt when talking to fools, and will restate what I said on another thread—-that people like you who come on Crock and parrot dumbass right wing political horsepucky rather than discuss the science of AGW are regarded as flaming anal orifices with low IQ’s and personality problems. Go play in the right wing blogosphere with Limbaugh, Hannity, and Glenn Beck lovers and leave us to our rational discussions here.

It also annoys me that you have emboldened Crock’s resident village idiot Omnologos to run his mouth because he thinks he has found a friend in you. He is irrational enough without you pulling his strings.

PS Among the scientifically ignorant statements you have made on Crock was “The earth’s climate has been changing for 4.5 billion years”. I replied that was incorrect and asked if you understood why. Still waiting for an answer to that “science” question rather than more of your off-topic political BS,

          • mfellion Says:

My my, such a self appointed God. I never met a God before, should I kiss your rear end first or your feet. Or perhaps I should just knock you over the head and toss you off the eiffel tower? Since you are incapable of a civil discussion about anything talking about AGW would be a waste of time with you. Basically you and your friends are a bunch of opinionated idiots who substitute venom for discussion. Incidently I bet you have never actually read the 160 Mb of the IPCC report or any other actual science which is why plenty of people are getting tired of your bull manure. Perhaps if you read some science papers instead of repeating the talking heads somebody might find your comments of use but that is most likely impossible for you to do.

          • omnologos Says:

            Mfellion – you misspelled “dog”

          • dumboldguy Says:

Speaking of “dogs”, Omno, you embarrass yourself yet again by so mindlessly sniffing mfellion’s butt. And in public—-have you no shame?

          • omnologos Says:

          • dumboldguy Says:

It’s a metaphor, Omno, that’s WHAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT???? it is.

Perhaps beyond your limited mental capacity, though.
Find a reasonably intelligent 14-year-old and ask them to explain it to you.

          • omnologos Says:

Your ability not to understand is beyond belief

          • dumboldguy Says:

Classic, Omno—-truly classic. I will inscribe it in the book of Sayings of Omno under “impotent and mindless retorts”.

          • dumboldguy Says:

More impotent and mindless blather from mfellion, another fool who doesn’t know when to hold them and when to fold them. He also fits perfectly the old saw of “All Hat, No Cattle”.

Mfellion blathers on about me being “incapable of a civil discussion about anything” and says “talking about AGW would be a waste of time with me”. This from one who injects the mindless and uncivil right wing ideological “anythings” of Obama and Gore-bashing, communists, and NAZIS into a climate change debate, and wants to throw me off the Eiffel tower?

The EIFFEL TOWER? Hmmmmm—looking at the rather “frenchy” nom “fellion”, and his desire to throw me off a tall structure in Paris, could “mfellion” be a Frenchman with all the “issues” attached to that? LMAO.

I have tried to “talk” to him about his ignorant statement that “The Earth’s climate has been changing for 4.5 billion years”, but he refuses to respond and instead goes to the refuge of the weak—the ad hominem attack. Thanks for proving my point, mfellion.

And congratulations to all you other “opinionated idiots” who comment on Crock. It is typical of the low-IQ motivated reasoner that he would make such an attack on the group when he finds himself so badly outnumbered, and my laugh for the morning is the thought that he HIMSELF has read the IPCC report or “any other actual science” beyond what his mother reads to him at bedtime (Like “How the Grinch Koch Brothers Stole.A Livable Planet”).

He says “plenty of people are getting tired of our bull manure”? Yes, Rush, Hannity, and all the other denier whores get rich off getting fools like you to parrot that crap. I will ask again that you go play with them and stop wasting our time, but realize that “is most likely impossible for you to do”, since you ARE such a WIFI (Willfully Ignorant Functional Illiterate) that you will not understand my message.

Last chance, fool. Explain to us in the first sentences of your next comment why you misspoke when you said “The Earth’s climate has been changing for 4.5 billion years”, and prove that YOU understand some minimal science. Failure to do so will lower your grade to F MINUS and result in your being thrown out of the class.

          • omnologos Says:

            it's not a matter of humanity though…

          • dumboldguy Says:

Omno is still here, wagging his tail, and with his cute little nose all brown from sniffing mfellion’s butt. (dog behavior metaphor again, Omno)

Omno displays yet another knowledge deficit from his vast store of ignorance. Blood is not acidic, Omno, but basic, as anyone with a minimal knowledge of blood chemistry can tell you.

Perhaps Omno is trying to use a little metaphor here? As in trying to connect my “acid” comments and my “sharp” tongue with blood chemistry, and has just screwed it up a bit? Naaaaah, he’s not smart enough to even begin to accomplish that. I guess he didn’t consult with any reasonably intelligent 14-year-olds before making the attempt, either.

Go sniff you-know-where some more, Omno, but watch out for flames and don’t get your face scorched.

          • omnologos Says:

doggos – I have plenty of evidence demonstrating your inability to think. I made a quick and obvious joke about your sour bodily fluids, and all you could do is embark in an improbable exegesis that barely touched the possibility. Don’t worry. I am used to your cretinery, and I presume most are.

          • dumboldguy Says:

The only thing we “have plenty of evidence” for is Omno’s massive inability to recognize that his ongoing attempts to “mess with the bull” have resulted in his “feeling the horns” to such a degree that he is a piece of Swiss cheese in both the literal and figurative sense. Someone take a picture before the wind carries him away.

His talk about ANYONE else’s “inability to think” is the height of irony, (which Omno yet again shows that he does not understand), and his “joke” was indeed a very “obvious” but very stupid attempt at humor. Why did he not recognize that I was telling him that? He has been at his OmnoThesaurus again too—- as evidenced by “embark in an improbable exegesis that barely touched the possibility” and the delightful “cretinery”. I’m LMAO, Omno—you are worth every penny of the admission price.

          • dumboldguy Says:

PS In spite of my attempt to educate Omno, he continues to babble about “sour bodily fluids”. I will repeat that blood is basic, NOT acidic, and that the term “sweet” is associated with bases—-blood is sweet. “Sour” is associated with acids, and may be appropriate when talking about stomachs, but NOT blood.

Can anyone remember when Omno ever got ANYTHING right? Or ever acknowledged his errors when they were pointed out?

          • Calm down guys. Take it to the parking lot. Obviously, some of us prefer a sleazy Republican who prioritizes addressing climate change to a squeaky clean Democrat who doesn’t.

          • dumboldguy Says:

“Obviously, some of us prefer a sleazy Republican who prioritizes addressing climate change to a squeaky clean Democrat who doesn’t”?

Have we sunken that low that we will accept all the damage that “sleazy Repugnants” have done to this country in so many ways just because on this one issue “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”. A sad state of affairs if we have.

As for “Calm down guys. Take it to the parking lot”, it would appear that mfellion has driven off for now—he will likely be back again, since my guess is that he is a paid denier troll and cycles through websites distracting and disrupting by spewing right wing and Koch brothers horsepucky. If you were referring to Omno, he doesn’t know where the parking lot is—-he doesn’t own a car because he couldn’t pass the driver’s test, and it is more appropriate to say to him “take it to the bus stop”.

          • And yes, 2 California Dems have been convicted of felonies. A third is charged. Federal prison is in their future.

          • dumboldguy Says:

And? This is news? Politicians of ALL stripes are constantly committing crimes, just as I would imagine that more “common” criminals hold a variety of political beliefs. It speaks only to the sad and sorry state of so many humans that they are criminals, and politics has little to do with it. (Although I DO personally believe that there IS way more “criminality” of all kinds and degrees on the right than on the left.)

          • It’s a sad reality DOG. In other venues where lying to invade Iraq, economics, or health care is the topic, we’d be solid Democrats. On the other hand, this is about climate. Morality is multi-faceted. Liberals prioritize harm/care and fairness. Conservatives prioritize in-group loyalty, authority and purity (more easily disgusted). If humans were perfectly logical, we wouldn’t have these morality trade-offs. Do I wish the “aha moment” with Inglis were Inhofe’s instead of Grimm’s. You bet. Inhofe is more ignorant than evil.

  6. omnologos Says:

Do we all agree the real idiots are Cameron and his production company unable to properly check one of their stars?

    • rayduray Says:

Thank you omno for putting the petty in petty-minded. Thank you for putting the small in small-minded. Etc.

Instantly I read “Cameron” and went, “ah ha”, we’re discussing UK PM David Cameron and his infamous press agent who was part of the “News of the World” crowd who are currently on trial in the UK for some god-awful infringement of privacy cases.

But alas, all you had in mind was small-minded trash talk. Thanks for being so consistently disappointing! 🙂

      • omnologos Says:

Yeah right after Arnie fighting his interests and assorted high flyers defending the environment, “Years” manages to glorify a likely felon…but you don’t see a pattern and prefer to go off topic. Good to know. 8)

        • jpcowdrey Says:

Only in the mind of maurizio is making a politician, long into denial, admit that the physics of global warming is unassailable an act of glorifying said politician.

I do see a pattern here.

          • dumboldguy Says:

“mind of maurizio” is an oxymoron of the highest order.

          • omnologos Says:

Come on jp don’t sidestep the problem. They made a star of a possible felon, of all the politiciansthey ccould convince or otherwise. A failure of the highest order.

        • rayduray Says:

          Go off topic?

Omno, you must have been apoplectic with James Burke’s “Connections”. That man was a genius at going off-topic and making arcane links between seemingly separated-at-birth intellectual advances.

Here’s a topic we might consider. How is it when Omnologos comes on the scene he regularly seems to elicit a near Pavlovian response among people who know that you “don’t feed the trolls” yet feel utterly compelled to do exactly that? See, even this reply is in that vein.

          • omnologos Says:

ray – Peter has already said he’ll decide who’s a troll and who is not. Simply labeling people as “trolls” is for you a cheap and puerile way to avoid once again having to properly reason on a topic.

In the case at hand, David Cameron has zero to do with “Years” and its producers’ failure to conduct basic checks before proclaiming the climate sainthood of a person who is in very deep troubles now. You must have nothing to reply about that, because you went off-topic and then opined about “feeding the trolls”…feeding what exactly, I am not sure, since there is no meaningful on-topic contribution by you.

Thinking about Grimm again (to remain topical), the decision to dedicate episode 3 to somebody who’s on the record as threatening to throw a reporter off a balcony, is a dream-come-true for all who’d like to treat “Years” as an incompetent joke.

  8. To help put the above daisy-chain of comments into better perspective might I suggest this thought provoking examination of our broken political system
    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
    How politics makes us stupid
    by Ezra Klein 4/6/2014

“If only the citizenry were more informed, the thinking goes, then there wouldn’t be all this fighting.

It’s a seductive model. It suggests our fellow countrymen aren’t wrong so much as they’re misguided, or ignorant, or — most appealingly — misled by scoundrels from the other party. It holds that our debates are tractable and that the answers to our toughest problems aren’t very controversial at all. The theory is particularly prevalent in Washington, where partisans devote enormous amounts of energy to persuading each other that there’s really a right answer to the difficult questions in American politics — and that they have it.

But the More Information Hypothesis isn’t just wrong. It’s backwards. Cutting-edge research shows that the more information partisans get, the deeper their disagreements become.”
    ~ ~ ~

“But here, too, the opposite was true: among people who were already skeptical of climate change, scientific literacy made them more skeptical of climate change.

This will make sense to anyone who’s ever read the work of a serious climate change denialist. It’s filled with facts and figures, graphs and charts, studies and citations. Much of the data is wrong or irrelevant. But it feels convincing. It’s a terrific performance of scientific inquiry.

And climate-change skeptics who immerse themselves in it end up far more confident that global warming is a hoax than people who haven’t spent much time studying the issue.

More information, in this context, doesn’t help skeptics discover the best evidence. Instead, it sends them searching for evidence that seems to prove them right. And in the age of the internet, such evidence is never very far away.”
    ~ ~ ~

“Individuals subconsciously resist factual information that threatens their defining values.”

    • dumboldguy Says:

Well put. There was a time when I visited right wing whackoblogs in an effort to understand the mindless attacks on Obama early in his term. When I tried to find a factual basis for any of the venomous horsepucky, I found an interlocking web of sites and commenters all quoting each other and congratulating themselves on their shared insights and profound agreement. It’s much the same thing with the AGW deniers, and the term “circular firing squad” describes them all perfectly.

      • jpcowdrey Says:

I think the term you’re looking for is circle jerk. The circular firing squad moment is still in the future.

        • dumboldguy Says:

Yeah, I was speaking metaphorically, of course. Circle jerk fits nicely also, but these guys were ANGRY and I saw a lot of “shots fired” that hit the guy on the other side. Many of them were directed at me—the usual ‘You’re a liberal-progressive-marxist-socialist-communist-fascist-nazi-Kenyan lover-etc” BS.

I got pretty good at redirecting shots fired at me to others around the circle and stirring up numbers of the Patriots, Real Americans, and Warriors, many of whom wanted to do me bodily harm. I take great pride in having been banned from several of the right-wing-whacko sites. The great Bob Livingston himself banned me from Personal Liberty Digest because I exposed him for the charlatan and panderer that he is.
