  1. You would have enjoyed http://seven50.org/ conference last month where the climate analysts of south Florida met the developers and tried to get them to think past 50 years.

I attended but did not speak. I was appalled that the most sea level rise they would consider in planning was 2 feet by 2060 and then nothing after 2060. They would not agree that 2 feet by 2060 might mean 4 or 5 feet by 2100.

So they are planning to increase the population of South Florida by 3 million by that time, and they are planning all sorts of new investments to make as much money as possible from the region.

I can only assume that they secretly want to maximize profit before the inevitable drowning takes place.

They would talk about mitigation (but not decarbonization) and adaptation, but not a word about evacuation. Florida Power and Light (FPL) was in the room and among other things talked about how they are going to expand their nuclear facilities at Turkey Point.

Talk about Risk! Can you spell Fukushima?

    1. Expanding the nuclear plant at Turkey Point is a positive response to climate change. We need more electricity to decarbonize, which is only worth doing if that electricity is not itself carbon-dioxide-generating.

And Turkey Point has been directly hit by a huge hurricane without safety problems. Talk about safe! Proven convincingly.

  2. Yes, we are all going to see who lied.

BTW, what Fukushima demonstrated is that even when the most extreme and heretofore unimaginable natural disaster hits several nuclear power stations, there was not a single death associated with nuclear radiation. That’s how safe they are.

Had the same disaster occurred with coal, gas, hydro, photovoltaic or wind power generation, there would almost certainly have been deaths directly related to those mediums of power generation.

    1. Yes, you’re absolutely right, dube, those wind slicks and leaks of you, know, sunbeams can be really serious.

Are you serious, dude? Nuclear reactors are not an option for a world of deteriorating climate and collapsing economies–on its huge water use alone, let alone all the other unsolvable problem. Fossil fuels cause millions of deaths a year including vast numbers of wildlife of all kinds, and are creating a global ecological catastrophe unparalleled in human history. Wind and solar, on the other hand, are harmless forms of energy that have the power to save civilization. To be against them is to be against science, rational thought, and a stable civilization.

  3. “The uploader has not made this video available in your country”

So wish I could see this. Please could a friendly soul mirror the vid and make it available in the UK? Actually I’m not even sure if that is possible. And certainly don’t do it if it breaks copyright laws – but if it can be done, I’d be most grateful.

    1. Thanks for the viewable version. I’m subscribed to their feed and somehow missed this one. I try to watch everything with Carla Santa Maria in it as well.
