Germany Continues to Export Power Despite Nuclear Exit

They said it couldn’t happen. They keep trying to trash the EnergieWende – Germany’s planet-leading transformation to renewable energy.
But the pesky Germans keep perking along.
FRANKFURT–Germany exported more electricity than it imported for the seventh consecutive year in 2012, despite an accelerated exit from nuclear-power generation that included the immediate and permanent shut-down of nearly half of the country’s atomic reactors in 2011.
Germany exported about 22.8 terrawatt-hours of electricity more than it imported in 2012, the Federal Statistics Office, Destatis, said Tuesday in a written statement.
The main destinations for German-produced electricity were the Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria, said the statistics office, citing data supplied by Germany’s four power transmission grid operators.
The main sources of power imports into Germany were France, Denmark and the Czech Republic, it said.
The statistics office didn’t provide any reasons for the continued power exports, despite the fact that Germany shut down eight of 17 nuclear reactors in the wake of the Fukushima disaster in Japan in March 2011.
The rapid expansion of solar- and wind-power installations are seen as the main reason for continued German electricity exports, as well as the erosion of wholesale power prices under which many of Europe’s utilities are presently suffering.

Not possible in America: America a corpocracy now – since 1977 and the Nixon shock – even Germany was refused her gold – high jacked, robbed, plundered, as was France and others. Since that time, lobbyists speak louder than votes, corporations have assumed all the rights, attributes of a human, save for that of death, and nothing can be done except for corporate profits motives – Germany in the other hand still maintains a government in service of the country, the people and not the corporations, multinational corporations forming the plutocracies of this world.
Witch system is better? time will tell, but right now a cockamamie communist/capitalist juggernaut, China, makes astounding progress over all others and the new corpocracy in the U.S.A. fails to bring satisfactory remunerations to the larger part of its population, and makes a few very wealthy at the top.
America grows frightenly deeper in debt each day, as China prospers?

Not so fast!!! After deciding to phase out nuclear power Germany is boosting its coal power generation. It is worth noting that by all standards coal power is worse than nuclear power in terms of health and environmental impacts.

Germany actually plans to build more coal plants in the years and more electric power is being generated from coal.

When Japan shut down its nuclear plants after the Fukushima accident it met its power short fall through the use of gas. When Austria kicked against nuclear a couple decades ago it met its power needs by coal plants.
WHENEVER NUCLEAR IS TAKEN OUT OF THE SYSTEM THE WINNER IS FOSSIL FUEL AND THE LOSER IS THE ENVIRONMENT!!!

Wattsups information is confirmed by others so they saying the truth. My point is that if Germany is environmentally conscious it should have shut down all its coal plants before ever thinking of phasing out nuclear. To phase out nuclear power and boost up coal power which the highest source of electriciuty (about 45%) is totally unacceptable in the face of ciurrent climate change realities.

While there are likely many sites where you’re rewarded for posting unsupported contrarian views and links that you don’t bother reading, this blog isn’t one of them.
Your link to der Spiegel is a Sept 2012 article about how newer coal plants equipped with silos can be flexible enough to compete with gas.
That’s pretty much all it says.
The link to http://www.thelocal.de is hearsay, with no supporting corroboration.
It claims that the Berliner Zeitung reported that someone told them that, yadda, yadda, yadda. No link to an original story and searches on the Zeitung’s site for Kohle, Nuklearen or Oliver Krischer doesn’t turn up a relevant story.
If you can provide a link to the original story, I’ll gladly read it.
