Making the rounds on mugs, tees, and posters as well.
Here’s another one that resonates.
There is just one problem with that second sticker – which is that an awful lot of people (in big businesses around the world) are lying to us and, as James Hansen has pointed out, most of our politicians are lying to themselves (even if not us) if they think we can solve the problem of climate change and burn all the Earth’s fossil fuels…
Does that make environmentalists a cult? No it does not, “…we are neither left nor right, we are out in front” (Petra Kelly).
Some are. It comes to this definition:
A group or movement exhibiting great or excessive devotion or dedication to some person, idea, or thing, and employing unethical manipulative or coercive techniques of persuasion and control (e.g., isolation from former friends and family, debilitation, use of special methods to heighten suggestibility or subservience, powerful group pressures, information management, suspension of individuality or critical judgment, promotion of total dependency upon the group and fear of leaving it), designed to advance the group’s leaders, to the actual or possible detriment of members, their families, or the community.
The key here is information management a.k.a Fox News
I wasn’t being entirely serious but thanks for taking the time to address the ambiguity I highlighted.
No one is completely honest. Add money (corporate media), and dishonesty reaches critical levels. Add politics (Fox News), and it reaches fever pitch. But like any good liar, Fox mixes in bits of truth with the jumble of agenda-driven “news”.
What Fox basically provides is pre-packaged confirmation bias for certain segments of the United States. It’s a product. It also happens to serve certain interests exceptionally well, too. But never think you won’t see lies elsewhere.
The return of the weekend break. Here’s a fascinating little vignette on an Argentinian resort that lost a battle to climate change and has returned Lazarus style for a second-go-round as an attractive ghost town:
The fate of this town reminds me a bit of the bizarre history of the Salton Sea in Southern California.
