Tim DeChristopher meets Reverend Billy and the Church of Earthalujah

July 13, 2011

The gloriously bent Reverend Billy introduces Tim DeChristopher.  Tim DeChristopher is awaiting sentencing later this month.

Tim DeChristopher slowed down a federal auction in December 2008 by bidding on Utah wilderness (“Bidder 70”) against gas and mining companies. Hoping to interrupt the energy policies of Bush-Cheney in the last days of that administration, he put in a bid for 22,000 acres without the riches to pay for it, just the love of the pristine wilderness of Southern Utah. He was convicted in early March for two felony counts and faces up to 10 years in prison.

Below: Rev. Billy explains the “Church of Earthalujah”, and the  “Church of Stop Shopping’.

    In the meantime UK

We could be at the heart of wind power revolution

Instead of the 13GW of offshore wind power by 2020 called for by the Committee on Climate Change – the statutory body that advises ministers on carbon emissions targets and how to meet them – the Government wants the UK to have as much as 18GW by the same date.

An industry taskforce will also be set up to drive forward the plans, with the aim of bringing down the cost of offshore wind from about £140 to £170 per megawatt hour produced today to about £100 a megawatt hour by 2020.
