Republicans Open New Front in War on Science
January 21, 2011
Climate Science Watch reports:
The Republican Study Committee, which represents 165 House Republicans, issued a proposal today to cut more than $2.5 trillion from the federal budget in the next 10 years – with the aim of balancing the federal budget entirely through budget cuts in non-military programs. Buried in the RSC plan is this line item: “Eliminate taxpayer subsidies to the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. $12.5 million annual savings.”
Expect continuing attacks of this kind from the right-wing denialist war on climate science contingent.
Cuts for military expenditures so far = 0.

Seems that the Republicans are leading the U.S. into new “Dark Ages”. How sad, and unnecessary – and with all that military might and less and less enlightenment, it’s going to be very brutal.

Hopefully, Republicans will overplay their hand in many domains, including climate. “Conservatives” will be forced to publically talk among themselves about their bewildering repertoire of absolutist beliefs explaining why the climate is and/or is not changing. Even they might notice their collective incoherence. For example, a near verbatim initial rebuttal I encountered yesterday from a polite ethical conservative – “I have studied a little in this area. All the hard science evidence that has my respect actually demonstrates rather clearly that the change is really being driven by the Sun, and not our own devices.”

This makes me sick.

TDAR1404,
I feel your pain more than your screen name. Don’t despair. It’s the 7th round of the Rumble in the Jungle. Stay cool. The manipulators want to provoke your anger. Respect the confused and mislead – who are about to see what’s going on behind the curtain. When a fight moves onto the street, it’s almost over. (Hopefully, I can predict the future as well as I can come up with trite metaphors 🙂

“when a fight moves into the street, it’s almost over”.
I like it.

[…] don't expect an environmental insurrection against President Obama—not when Republicans are firmly in the climate change denial camp. Deep down greens know they can't do much […]
