Obama Tweet Tweaks Congress. A Tell on Keystone?

April 26, 2013

Obama’s Organizing for America lobbying group has produced a video of congressional republicans saying stupid things about climate. (fish, meet barrel) Then he tweets it.

Tipping a hand on Keystone? Sop to Climate Hawks before he approves the pipeline? or sign that he’s done the polling math and will shoot the project down and wade into the climate debate?  I can hardly play two dimensional chess, so this 3 dimensional stuff is beyond me.

Peter, you wrote: “Tipping a hand on Keystone? Sop to Climate Hawks before he approves the pipeline? or sign that he’s done the polling math and will shoot the project down and wade into the climate debate? I can hardly play two dimensional chess, so this 3 dimensional stuff is beyond me.”

Let me try to help you out here.

Obama’s “Organizing The Base” crew are engaged in Ralph Reed-ism. They are throwing raw meat at the base. The attack on the obviously deranged GOP defenders of the corporate prerogative in the Congress is meant to whip up a “two-minute” Orwellian hate in anyone so naive as to have signed up for the post-election Obama “Organizing For Action” astro-turf promotion. It certainly should not be considered a serious attack on the GOP.

Please recall that in the aftermath of the Federal Government and the FRB giving about $23 Trillion in grants, cash, credit and guarantees to the too-big-to-fail banks that Barack Obama had a few harsh words for Wall Street. Of course the ever-obliging media failed to mention the greatest heist in the history of humanity and focused with laser-like intensity on Obama’s scolding words. Which were meaningless.

This latest Tweet is exactly the same. It’s fluff. With two intentions. One is to placate the crowd of do-gooder types who are prone to naivete. And the second is perhaps confuse you.

Let me clear this up. Obama intends to betray you. It is only a matter of time, Or, rather, of timing.

As I’ve written before, the key decision to allow the half of the Keystone XL pipeline that isn’t already being built will come out in a memo out of an obscure bureau in the State Department on a Friday afternoon, or with even more poignant cynicism at 4:45 PM, Thursday, July 4. It will be neglected by the mainstream media, per their instructions from the White House.

I could be wrong, but I always agree with Lily Tomlin who observed that “no matter how cynical I get, it’s hard to keep up.”

  3. The press exaggerates EPA’s tepid push back. However, it could justify another stall if not outright rejection. I wouldn’t predict the decision, but I’d wager that there won’t be an attempt to slip it under the radar. Pity the speech writer.

Back when I was young and idealistic (Jan 2009) I would have strongly disagreed with rayduray but after 4 1/2 years of watching the show I’ve decided that it’s impossible to be too cynical about the massive disconnect between Obama’s talk and action. Even after all the actual actions, there are still many starry-eyed supporters who will argue that he is setting a trap for the GOP with everything he does. No, he’s saying what he says to keep the idealistic base from defecting while he’s doing the bidding of the banks and energy companies.

The good news is that he hasn’t started any new wars. The bad news is that he hasn’t ended any old ones. At least he’s still funding some alt energy projects. We need a Churchill, and we got a Neville Chamberlain.

Neither the video nor the tweet link say anything about Keystone. I agree with rayduray – the intent is to get the base whipped up and laughing about the stupidity of the Republicans, but that’s it. The basic message is that climate science should be debated in Congress – but we all know how that would end up – just another version of the linked video.
